A question about LLTF...

Okay, I have a question about how some of the riffs from Like Light to Flies are played. Namely, these riffs here :
CODE'Verse
Guitars 1 and 2
E|-------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------------|
G|-------------------------------------|
D|-------------------------------------|
A|-10--8--7--5--7-8-10--8--7--12--10-8-|
D|---00-00-00-00-0-0--00-00-00--00--0-0|
pm  .. .. .. .. . .  .. .. ..  ..  . .
Prechorus
Guitars 1 and 2
E|------------------------------------|
B|------------------------------------|
G|------------------------------------|
D|----------7-------------------------|
A|-8--8--7-----8--5--8--8--7-8-10-8-7-|
D|--88-88-88-88-------88-88-8-8--8-8--|
pm .. .. .. ..       .. .. . .  . .

Guitars 1 and 2
E|------------------------------------|
B|------------------------------------|
G|------------------------------------|
D|----------7-------------------------|
A|-8--8--7-----8--5--8--8--7-8-10-8-7-|
D|--00-00-00-00-------00-00-0-0--0-0--|

Are these riffs played strictly with downpicking, or at they played with alternate picking? I've always played them with downpicking because it fit the feel of the song better, but it's difficult to play at the speed of the recording using only downstokes. Does anybody know how Matt and Corey play it, so I know how it's supposed to be played?

it's all downpicking, and it really not that fast if you practice it a little.

well for me i dont do only down strokes
i do whats comfortable for me

thats not even the way matt n corey play it. but practice will get downstroking easier, slow until perfect, and slowly speed it up

I play it with alternate picking although I can do it with downstrokes too, I just like playing it with alternate picking better..

Well, thats not exactly how I play it either, I just pulled it out of the first tab I could find as a rough example. This is how I play the first riff:
CODE'Verse
Guitars 1 and 2
E|-------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------------|
G|-------------------------------------|
D|--5-----------------5----------7---5-----|
A|-----8--7--5--7-8-----8--7----------8-|
D|---00-00-00-00-0-0--00-00-00--00--0-0|

bah, I really suck at getting these things to line up, but you get the idea. Of course, if Matt and Corey play it differently, I'd appreciate if somebody showed me the correct way. As for the picking, yea, I kinda figured it was downpicked. I've just kinda let my pick hand go recently, due to lack of practice. Working 50 hours a week sucks.

The tab you posted is exactly like the first tab you got off the tab website..
10 in the fifth string = 5 in the fourth
12 in the fifth string = 7 in the fourth
duh..?

yes, I know that. The point being, I play it that way because it's easier, and I'm 99% sure it's the correct notes. The way I play it requires less movement of the left hand...duh.

This is matt's part but for the record, when i read tabs, i like to read them and then play them the way the artist intended on having it played whether its easier or not. This is how i play it
CODEe[--------------------------------------------------------------------------]
B[--------------------------------------------------------------------------]
G[--------------------------------------------------------------------------]
D[-----------------------------7----------------------------8~8~8~-10-10-10-]
A[-10--8--7--5--7-8--10--8--7-----10--8--10--8--7--5--7-8---8~8~8~-10-10-10-]
D[---00-00-00-00-0-----00-00-00-00--00-----00-00-00-00 0----8~8~8~-10-10-10-]
    .. .. .. .. .     .. .. .. ..  ..     .. .. .. .. .

that actually might be easier than my way...I go by the theory that the easiest way to play is usually the right way, because it makes sense that the original artist would try to make the riff as easy to play as possible, but yea, I try to play it the way the artist intended.
