Most of these seem off by a long-shot... Eh...for lltf...I'm pretty sure the ORIGINAL recording was done with the xxx...because I've pretty much nailed the tone down pat... You won't be able to get the scratchy undertones they get without a very loose sounding amp...the 5150, xxx, and the mesa rectifiers do a great job with saggy tones...along with the jsx... As far as tone goes, Here's where I'm at... My cabinet is using celestion vintage 30's paired with a set of g12h30's (to articulate my midrange, i like having some control..) My head is set too the loose position and the master volume (yes, volume makes a difference people..) is at about half...my pre-amp volume is about almost half.... My settings: On the crunch channel...(the ultra channel is too bassy and flabby...more like a rec than anything... :-/...the crunch is perfect...not too bassy or too midrange sounding..) Gain: ABOUT 12 o'clock Treble:12 o'clock even...maybe a hair farther...ehh....5.1 ish? Mids: A little over 12 o'clock.....5.5ish? Bass:A little farther than the mids...6? On your guitar...your pickups are going to play a big role in the tone so.... make sure you have a high output passive...or at least a mid-high passive... I found active emg's are good...but, just add a bit too much noise too the mix...Duncan distortions do well...so does the jazz pickups... Adjust your tone from the guitar and max the volume and your good to go :-D....
Again, if your not using the amp...then you'll never get the exact tone...maybe close...but not the real deal...

Congratulations on succesfully being the first one to know how to properly dial tone in this thread.
