Anyone else think Ember is better than Ascendancy?

What's up guys?

I'm admittedly a pretty new Trivium fan, having only discovered them last year, so I'm playing a bit of catch-up on listening to their stuff.

I bought Shogun last year, and absolutely loved it, and listened to it through a number of times. I just recently bought The Crusade, and think that's an awesome CD as well (not getting why people think it's so low on the totem pole compared to the other albums).

Being hyped up for In Waves (have it pre-ordered), I decided to finally get around to listening to "the best" Trivium album as most people call it, Ascendancy. I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed having been discovering the band the way I have, with the newer stuff first. And no, it's not because I don't enjoy screaming metal, I definitely do, if it's kept interesting!

I don't know... I just didn't care for the album at all, really. Felt like listening to the same song over and over to me. Maybe it'll grow on me with time, we'll see.

So as we speak, I'm just finishing up Ember To Inferno, which is touted as "the weakest" of their albums, and I have been enjoying it QUITE a bit. Feel the song writing as much more interesting and doesn't go off on as many tangents as Ascendancy does, and not quite as much RAWR I'M ANGRY.

So yeah, don't shoot me for being honest on the band's own website, Trivium fans, but that's just my honest opinion! I had a lot more fun listening to Ember. Anyone else feel the same way about Ember being better than Ascendancy?

Ember to Inferno is a fuckin killer album. I can't say it's better than Ascendancy nor worse. I love both albums equally, all 3 actually (Shogun). To be honest, I can't even list them from favorite to least. All 3 offer something different and great.

I love all albums, but The Crusade just doesn't do it for me. It's the only Trivium album where I enjoy only a handful of songs and find myself skipping tracks.

For me it varies from time to time. The past couple of months I've been really in to "ember to..." and before that I was really in to "shogun". So ask me in a couple of months and I will probably hold another Trivium album as my favorite. Although I must say I never feel that the "the crusade" is my favorite record. Dont get me wrong, I think that "the crusade" is a good album but its far from as good as the other albums, I feel its sort of the "load/reload" era of trivium... sounds decent and all but its not really trivium to me. So personally I think that "the crusade" album was sort of a let down, the album had its moments but it just wasnt as good as their other stuff.

@Invictus: yeah i agree about the crusade. it had some kick ass songs but mostly it was boring.

I think Ascendancy is defs my favourite album I think that's because it was the first Trivium album I listened to. I was hooked from then on.

Ember is overrated. Its pretty much their 2003 demo with a bunch of fillers(excluding the title track) in my opinion. Plus its missing The Storm and Demon.

I think Ember To Inferno is more excellent than Ascendancy in the point of pathetic sound.
It appears clearly in The Deceived and Blinding Tears Will Break The Skies in Ember.

However I'd like to know whether Brent Young is a good bassist on this album.
I don't wanna say he is kind of poor, but I've seen some critics against his bass on Japanese forum,
so I'd like to know that.
