i admit for him its sort of good coz he is in a band and stuff. But i mean it's not like they lock the pedestrian gates all the time...it depends what gated community your in. And if you're a stalker...they can be pretty determined. I guess coz im an anarchist and i'm interested in social geography one of the areas of study are things like gated communities, ghettos, segregated areas and the affect they have on people socially. And it aint a positive effect.

QUOTE(ScottishAnarchist @ Jun 30 2007, 02:30 PM) Well i suppose if you're enclosed within a wall you think your safe but castles were never impenatrable and i still feel gated communities and other such walls have a detrimental effect. It depends where you live, what social problems you have and also how many gated communities exist.
But with these communities there's always a feeling of...segregation.
Suppose if you did urban geography, it would be better explained. I'm not qualified but it's not like my opinions have no foundation. I'm sure the people who live inside them feel safe and are nice but i don't think they realise the message it gives out to outsiders especially the ones that have private police and armed guards. It's this climate of fear.

But that way it is harder for people to find his house and shizz.

And i bet i could make an impenatrable castle!

QUOTE(ashley_ann @ Jun 29 2007, 03:43 PM) the gated community living has little to do with crime rates and snobbery, and mostly about living in the area where you grew up, where there is a greater population of people who know who you are and about the band. in a gated community, people can't follow you home, into your driveway, from somewhere and see where you live, sleep, etc.
not to mention, florida seems to be the gated community capital of the world. regardless of price/size/location of your home.
oh ok, cause when i stayed in florida, we lived in a gated community, i thought it was actually safer, thanks for clearing that up

QUOTE(ScottishAnarchist @ Jun 28 2007, 08:27 PM) Well.....thats a contested issue. I mean if i was a criminal i would assume that the richest people are inside gated communities. Studies show that gated communities don't have noticeably lower rates of crime than non-gated communities. The gated community creates the illusion of security. And as far as i know unless you have armed guards, they're not as impenatrable as they seem. And they add to this growing segregation of classes. It's like a....fortress, the urban privatisation of public space. In South Africa its obviously a growing phenomenon...a counter action to squatters and less privelaged people.
They say gated communities coincide with the age of the "white flight".

Maybe he just doesnt want weirdos stalking him and finding out where he lives.
Its understandable really.
