August 9th, Huntington, West Virginia Review
September 15, 2009 11:48:32 PM UTC Post #1

Me and my friend left our hometown in northern virginia around 7 that morning, and arrived in Huntington around 2-2:30. We immediately left the car and walked straight to Trivium's tour bus in hopes of getting autographs/pictures. We waited about 15 minutes, and sure enough, Corey walked out from backstage onto the bus. We knew he was busy, so we just said hi, and he said hi back. Then Travis came from backstage and walked towards the bus. Me and my friend both said hi, and then I asked for a hug. He responded "I dont swing that way, but its cool", and I got a hug from Travis, and we had a few laughs about it. He thanked us for supporting them and left. Then about 5 minutes later,  Corey stepped off the bus with a sharpie and asked me and my friend if we had anything we'd like to have signed. We were more than happy to oblige, but unfortunately, I left my copies of Ember, Ascendancy and The Crusade in the car >.<. Corey however signed my Trivium shirt, and signed my friend Josh's shoe (lol). Josh then got a picture with Corey, that I took, and we were doing pretty damn good at that point. We were thinking "These guys are fuckin nice. They dont act like rockstars at all."
Corey was going back and forth between the bus and backstage a lot. We didnt bother him though. I'm sure he was busy. The roadcrew was saying hi to us and being real friendly, which was great.
We waited around a bit longer, in hopes of meeting Paolo and Matt, and sure enough, the bus door opened, and out they came, first Paolo, then Ninju, then Matt. We immediately took advantage of the opportunity, and introduced ourselves to them. I then asked Matt if I could have a picture with him and Paolo and Josh took the picture, then I took a picture of him with them, but accadently didnt save it, so I felt horrible about it. It was nothing intentional. I wouldnt even dream of doing something like that on purpose, especially not to my best friend.
After that, the three of them proceeded to walk downtown. We didnt want to bug them much, so we let them be, and went to the front of the club to secure our place in line (first in line). We ended up waiting another 90 minutes, but the time was spent talking to other Trivium fans, not very much like ourselves, but cool regardless.
Once the doors opened, me and josh rushed inside to secure our place at  the front of the stage. At that point, the first band got on, but were clouded by technical difficulties. It really sucked for them, but the bassist attempted standup comedy, which was funny. The second band, I dont even want to recollect. They sucked shit, and wanted to be Lamb of God/Pantera, but werent even Norma Jean. The third band also was also bad, but it wasnt due to poor songwriting, it was due to the fact the singer was a dickhead and almost beat people over the head with his microphone every 5 seconds. Also, the guitar effects were grating on me after a while, as was the overly loud bass. Oh yeah, and some people stagedived at this point in the set, but ended up falling flat on the ground, due to no one catching them. LMFAO
Cephalic Carnage were next, and they were the prime opener I was waiting for, and they delivered. Great death metal for great headbanging, nuff said.
The Red Chord was alright, though vastly repetitive. I could never tell when one song ended and one started. The guitarists were badass though. About 12 times during their set, some people behind us were propping themselves up on mine and josh's shoulders to scream into the microphone, and at the end about 50 people climbed our shoulders to get onstage, which hurt lol
Between the Buried and Me was complete horseshit. I dont even want to comment. Stupid hardcore for emo kids who want something heavier to blare for their parents.
Finally, what we were waiting all this time for. Trivium took to the stage and completely slayed through a 15 song set, They opened with To the Rats, and continued through Unrepentant, Ember to Inferno, Rain, Like Light to Flies, etc. hardly pausing in between songs to talk. We were right in front of Matt, headbanging our asses off. Their sound was great, nice and heavy, and very headbangable, which is what we did. A few times during the set, Matt or Corey would bend down in front of us and play their solos, which was completely badass. It was great that no one attempted to touch matt or Corey or their guitars, and respected their space while playing. As the show ended, (which felt like just 5 minutes after they got onstage), they left the stage, but came back with picks to throw to the crowd. What me and Josh werent expecting was that Matt would personally hand us guitar picks, which was beyond awesome. I'm sure he remembered us from the bus earlier. After they bowed out and left the stage, we walked away and I noticed Ninju standing over by a bar. I stopped, introduced myself and we talked for a few minutes. We told him we were triviumworld members, and then he asked us if we wanted to stick around. We would have loved to, but Josh's mom was getting irritable, so we kinda had to leave. Objection wasnt an option, because she drove us 6 hours to go to this gig. Oh well, there's always next year.
I just want to give my thanks out to the members of Trivium and Ninju for being such cool guys to us. Ninju was awesome to talk to and the guys in Trivium seemed more than happy to take a picture and say hi. It pains me I didnt get a chance to stay after the show for a while, but I know I will most likely get another chance in the future. Trivium tours very extensively and are very down to earth to their fans.
Thanks again to Trivium for making our day complete. It couldnt have been better if we wanted it to be.
