QUOTE(Unrepentant @ Jan 3 2007, 11:23 PM) DUmb dumb? hes playing different notes on the video then in the actual recorded song. I have the actual solo tabbed out from the song but this solo sounds different. I don't know anymore.
Heres the recorded version of the 2 fast sweeps:
Sweep 1:
|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|--14----14--14------14----------------------------------------------------------------
|-------------------14------14--13--14--13----------13---------------------------------
|-----------------------------------------------14---------14------14--11------11~-----
|---------------------------------------------------------------16----------14-------------
|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sweep 2:
|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|--15----14--15--14------14------------------------------------------------------------
|-----------------------14------14--13--14--13-------13-----------------------------
|----------------------------------------------------16------16------16------12~-------
|-----------------------------------------------------------------17------16-------------
|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's see ... those aren't sweeps, or for that matter, anything close to sweeps. Leading me to think you don't know a whole lot about guitar, and that your ear for pitch is also bad. The solos are exactly the same with maybe a 1 or 2 note difference.

January 04, 2007 2:42:31 PM UTC Post #13

Agreed Maximus, ignoring the fact that how Matt plays it is obviously how to play the solo anyway.

January 04, 2007 4:30:50 PM UTC Post #14

But he improvised it in the studio and relearned it later so it is different a bit becuase if you truly listen to the song while u play his solo in the vid it dosent match a bit. So thats why im saying what I am. Dude, all I did was slow the solo of the song down and tab it note-by-note and got that. You try it yourself and you will probably get the same thing.

The way you tabbed it is also very inconsistent in the way of fingerings etc. Matt, being a skilled player, would also know that, because those two runs are obviously derived from a pentatonic scale. The way he demonstrated may have very minimal differences, but nothing completely different the way you seem to be explaining it.
And yes, I did tab it when the album came out. I also used guitar pro to tab it, near proving its correctness.
No offense to your or anything, I have no reason to dislike you. Just don't try to argue a point when you simply have less experience than others arguing.

What key is Ascendancy the song in? becuase if matt is playing a pentatonic minor then I think it would either be D minor of F# minor but its not so I don't know.
I also know quite a bit about Guitar dude. I don't know much theory but i know a good amount. I don't know why I called them sweeps guess i just goofed or something but sweeps are more like arpeggios or whatnot. anyhow and yea that is what i tabbed by ear with the songs solo slowed down. I have pretty decent musical pitch to so dont say i have a bad one when you only seen 1 tab.

Ascendancy, the song, is in F# minor i believe

January 05, 2007 1:53:07 PM UTC Post #18

It is in F#, as well as a lot of other songs on that album.

QUOTE(eternalrest999 @ Jan 6 2007, 01:04 PM) fuck, i hate n00bs who try and give guitar advice.
NUMBER 1
You dind't have to call me a n00b just becuase I said what I did. Your speaking out of pure ignorance because simply, you nothing about me nor my guitar playing so just don't say shit like that.
2. That is the way to play the recorded version he did; Matt showed you the correct solo but he changed it around a bit. The one he shows you he just switches a few notes around but for the most part it is correct becuase it is arranged from the same scale, just like his Gunshot solo, live he always plays it differnt but yet very similar.
3. I do know what a sweep is. I goofed, I didn't mean to wright it but at the time I coulden't think of anything better to call it. I guess you could call it a scale run or a descending a scale whatever. Anyways, this would be a an example of a E7 sweep:
---------9-12p9-----------------12-15p12--------------
-----11----------11---------14--------------14---------
-12------------------12/15----------------------15-----
----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------
