Death Magnetic Vs. Shogun
September 15, 2009 11:49:39 PM UTC Post #1

Now I know this probably isn't the best place to ask this, but I know there are a lot of Metallica fans here, and since both albums came out so close to one another, which one do you think is better?
Death Magnetic is one of Metallica's best, and I mean come on, it's METALLICA! But Shogun is defnitely Trivium's best and a very brutal yet beautiful album.
I can't decide for myself, so what's your opinions?

I fucking love both albums, but honestly shoguns way better.

Shōgun is much more my type of album, though I liked Death Magnetic a lot...Shōgun is just an example of why they are my favourite band.
If my house was burning down and I could only save one CD (for some stupid reason?) I'd pick up Shogun in a heartbeat.

Just my opinion, but i think this sort of topic is kind of stupid..
Just because they were released around the same time..
Doesnt mean they should be compared or anything..
I mean,
A. They are 2 different bands
B. Each band has their own different qualities
Comparing bands is what everyone does..?
I dont get it..
Whats it prove?

Just my opinion though...

He's not asking us to prove anything. He's just asking which one we liked more. What is wrong with that? This isn't a "OMG MATT SOUNDS LIKE HETFIELD" or a "TRIVIUM RIPPED OFF METALLICA" thread...I dont see the harm in talking about which album we liked more. Though I doubt you'll get any real discussion now.
I would usually be against a thread like this, as I have been in the past, but I just don't care cos this thread doesn't need to turn into a debate about the 2 bands.

nah i agree angus. they are two different styles of music and thus cannot be compared.
i would not compare them, but i would say they were both highly anticipated albums and imo, they both could be a lot better. in saying that, they are both great albums, but a killer album to me would be one that i can listen to without skipping any songs.
these two albums however, there are 1-2 songs i generally skip.
they are still two great works of musical genius from two great bands

Yeah... I'm not one of those guys who talks about how Trivium are a Metallica rip-off.  ;)
However, they are both highly antcipated albums, and both are the same genre being metal. So they do have similarities.  8)

Firstly, i never said you were one of those people...
And Secondly,
If you actually listen to Trivium..and then listen to Metallica..
You'll notice something..
They are different bands, different people..
And at that, they both have different sounds and different ways of Music within each of them..
Just because two bands write, in some ways, the same genre of Music, doesnt mean they have to be compared as to which one is the better Metal band or who writes the better Metal album...

Jeez, just relax. He's just asking a simple question. No one here is trying to start an argument or debate about which band is better, just which recently released album we enjoy more. By the way, I love your power of deduction, simply amazing. I am pretty sure, being on the Trivium World site and all - meaning we are all members of TRIVIUM's fan club, that we understand that they are very different bands who write differently. So, we aren't allowed to discuss which album we liked more? Are you kidding me?
Not everyone is out to compare the 2 albums down to the core.

September 28, 2008 2:22:06 AM UTC Post #9

But you have to admit..
Its what so many people do these days..compare bands who dont even do the same thing, so how can you compare it.
Ok, so i'll admit, i over reacted, i apologise.
And have done so on past occasions, i've learnt my lesson.
