QUOTE(Ripper)I think a lot of the people who go on about him have watched the "Roadrunner United" DVD a few too many times.

My former drummer found it hilarious that, despite giving the demonstration about his blast beats, he has a trigger on his snare anyway.

A little sensor that goes on a certain piece of your drum kit, and when you hit that specific piece with the trigger on it, it sends a signal to a midi controller of the desired sound through the pa. So you can barely hit the bass drum and it will sound like you knocked the fuck out of it.

that is exactly what you did when you first showed me that DVD, you hypocrite
Dude... it was thanks to Annihilation By The Hands of God I even got into death metal in the first place!

QUOTE(Carnage)QUOTE(The Prof)He's not below average, that describes the likes of Lars Ulrich not Mike
Mike doesn't do anything spectacular but his brutality and the sheer tightness of his playing makes him the perfect drummer for Suffocation. Any extra embellishments to their stuff would take away from their sound, he understands that sometimes the best results come from what you don't play as much as what you do.
well, i dont think Suffocation is anything out of this world either...least good band i saw when i saw them with Cryptopsy, Vader and Decapitated. And i guess the fact im not a fan of Suffocation adds to my decision, lol.
You saw Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Vader and Decapitated... together.

They can do that but with most drummers it's simply a replacement for having the kit (in most cases just the kick-drums and sometimes the snare) miked up because the drummer wants their kit to have a particular sound that they know an engineer won't be able to get. Most of the newer/more expensive systems have sensitivity controls so that the sample of the 'hit' changes depending on how hard the drum is hit.
They also help with someone like Flo from Cryptopsy's kit because the triggers and module can be set up in about 5 minutes instead of taking up all the soundcheck time miking and checking a kit of that size.

That would be the gayest thing ever.

One of my other favourite drummers is the guy from my brothers band EighthNerve. He's called Will Romain and he is fucking incredible to watch. At every one of their gigs there is a crowd of drummers watching from the side of the stage. If he doesn't make a career out of music I'll be amazed. He isn't a typical metal drummer and does loads of really subtle things with his hands (although he can still drill the fuck out of his kicks).
