Gig Etiquette

My mate and I were talking about gigs that we have coming up over the next few months and we started to talk about good and bad gig experiences. During this we realised that theres not as much solidary in a crowd any more as their used to be. The worst thing I have seen in a pit was at Metallica/Slipknot in Dublin. There was a girl in the pit who wasn't so big. She got knocked to the ground and as my mate went to pick her up, this other guy just ran over and booted her right in the ribs. Not like it was an accident or anything. Unfortunately I have seen things like this happen more than I would have liked.
The very first time I went to see Trivium in the Spring and Airbrake in Belfast I was small and naive. This was the year that the crowd broke the security barrier and Trivium had to stop playing until it was fixed. I was totally pushed to the ground and this guy saw, helped me up and moved me to a pillar so I wouldn't get pushed about so much. I still remember that to this day as someone going out of there way to help me and it was class. How come things like this dont happen as much any more?
surely if you see someone fall u help them up? If you cant see the stage past a tall guy in front you move you don't try and start fights with him! You don't go into a pit just to punch someone in the face. If you don't like the support band - go to the bar.
At the end of the day everyone worked their shitty jobs to get the money together to go to the gig. We are all fans and we want to hear the band live and have a good time. Whats the point in people trying to ruin it for others? Or I am just being idealistic?!?

Oh don't worry about that. Myself and Storm were saying the exact same thing to eachother while we were at Damnation fest the other week..

I was on the barrier for Annihilator in 2006 and i hated it. Only because there was some huge gormless cunt annoying the piss out of me. His friends were asking about Annihilator and Trivium and he was giving shit anwsers that were wrong and song titles that didnt exist. And Somebody behind me was smoking. And all the crushed on top i just got really agitated n went n stood at the back of the pit. Nice clear air, space infront of you and a perfect view of the band.

you guys are gay
whenever i see a band i enjoy, im always on the pit, but i always take it easy, i agree some people do go a bit crazy and hurt others for no reason, but you gotta respect them too, if you dont want to get bumped on by sweaty guys, then move away from the pit, nd if they go out of control, fucking grab them by he neck and tell them to take it easy (ive done it before, haha)

Pits are gay
Loads of sweaty, usually topless, men grabbing each other... all says latent homosexual to me

pits here arent like that, everybody is fully clothed, and nobody "grabs" eachother, its more of jumping and bumping into eachother, or doing a circle pit, which is getting lame because people do it in the dumpest parts, they even dop it during breakdowns now, haa

The most ridiculous attempt to start a pit I ever saw was during a Lacuna Coil set when a couple of idiots tried to start one when they played Falling Again, a ballad - and not even a bloody power ballad!
I still say there's nothing wrong with watching a band, pint in hand and headbanging.

I watched my mates band onnn Sunday? Yes Sunday. And there was these two kids who wanted a pit n they were like 13 n had frnges. They like pushed each other and looked around n gave up. N kept trying until one knocked my beer a bit. If anyone there joined in they would have been thrown half way across the room.

Another thing I hate is when the guys who are 8 foot tall take their girlfriends right up to the front and hold on to them for the whole gig and if they get seperated then the guy will get really violent and shove everyone out of his way.
