Corey recommends the Speed Kills DVD too.
btw I think the soloing close to the end of The Crusade was inspired by this DVD.

Same type of idea, in the picking, but the actual part reminded me more closely of Liquid Tension Experiment's "universal mind"

Its usually best to start learning on the thicker strings, it was for me, also, try reducing how much of your pick hits the string, like tucking it under your thumb, in any case, i recommend Kristofer Dahls Speed Tone And Theory video lesson, its 20 bucks and really great guide to solo guitar.

QUOTE(Northern_Wrath @ Sep 22 2006, 02:43 PM) Pentatonic isnt a mode, at least not part of the base classical modes. A pentatonic scale is just taking, most commonly, either the aeolian or inonian modes and removing certain degrees.
Doesn't that depend on how you treat the scale? Especially considreing that the minor pentatonic was treated as a seperate scale in Japan. Sure its not a mode of the major scale, but then every scale can be broken up modally.
And sure every scale of any kind can be treated as a modification of the Ionian, but thats limiting.
