HELP PLEASE! A Question About the Dream Theater + Trivium Tour.
September 04, 2011 11:14:20 AM UTC Post #1

Hi everyone!

I had a really quick question about Trivium performing with Dream Theater. Honestly, I haven't been to many concerts myself, so I'm sorry if I come off sounding a bit ignorant.

So my main concern is figuring out how long Trivium will be performing. Are they more of an opening act, or is Trivium going to get as much stage time as Dream Theater? How long do you think they might play for? When I checked TicketMaster, I realized that Dream Theater is probably the headliner, but I'm still curious to know if Trivium will be getting their fair share of performance time too?

Basically, Trivium is my boyfriend's all-time FAVORITE band. He is in the United States Marine Corps, and I wanted to do something nice for him before he deploys in a month or so. (:

I wanted to surprise him with tickets to the September 25th, 2011 Trivium concert at the Nokia Theater in LA. He always talks about wanting to see Trivium in concert (I'm not so sure about Dream Theater. I never hear him talk about them.). I hope I can figure all of this out and give him one last nice gift before he deploys! (:

Honestly, I don't even know if this was the correct place to post this. Any information at all would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. (:

One more question! I really want to just surprise him with these tickets. If my boyfriend's not familiar with Dream Theater, do you think he will enjoy the concert? He listens to a lot of Trivium, Breaking Benjamin, Killswitch Engage, 36 Crazyfists...if that even helps. Thanks again!

I think most bands play gigs with bands in a similar league to them and similar music sort of taste or whatever you would call it haha
I am sure he would love the tickets, even if he weren't bothered about the other bands that would be there
Me and my boyfriend just got tickets for the tour in december because my boyfriend is obsessed haha

but all in all, even if he isn't so bothered about dream theatre hes going to see trivium and thats all that matters!! :D

you could always be like oh my friend mentioned this band to me 'dream theatre' have you ever heard of them? see if you can get him to start listening to them without telling him your aim

Thank you so much, caznlee. (: I really am grateful for your help.

I TOTALLY thought about bringing Dream Theater up with him. The only problem is, he is gone on a field operation and will be gone until towards the end of the month. I don't have any communication with him whatsoever, so I haven't had the opportunity to bring it up with him. For the time being, I have a non-existant boyfriend. Oh well, it comes with his job I guess...

I'm so excited for you and your boyfriend. I'm not a huge fan myself, but if my boyfriend is enjoying himself, then I'm equally as happy. (:

I'm still debating whether to drop all that money on tickets though....such a tough decision! /:

@kay123: I would expect Trivium to play 45 minutes to 1 hour. But they are the opener so I would make sure to get there when doors open, just so you don't miss them.

Typically at concerts the openers will play a full set, an hour or less. The headliner usually plays 1 hour to 2 hours depending on how much material they have or if it is a tour for a new album etc...

Hello Kay123 Always try & get to the gig early to que so you will get to see Trivium. I'm not to sure how big the Dream Theater shows are going to be out in the States, but by the looks of things the Nokia Theater in LA is HUGE! Yourself & your Boyfriend will love the show, Trivium are fantastic live.

My computer is completely spazzing out right now, so I'm sorry if my comment appears twice or I repeat myself. My internet connection is pretty shoddy right now...

I decided to purchase the tickets. (: My wallet is as skinny as can be, but hopefully my boyfriend will be pleasantly surprised. (: And _AvR, I sure hope you're right about them being good live. Although I'm not the biggest fan, I do appreciate good music. (:

You're probably the best girlfriend of all time. But I think Matt posted on twitter they had 45-50 minutes on stage, which is pretty good. If he likes all the bands you named then he won't mind Dream Theater that's for sure. They're a solid band.

To _AvR: Thanks again! It's amazing how complete strangers can be so kind and helpful. (: I will definitely try to take some pictures although the seats I got are a bit off to the side (even though I bought the most expensive tickets...darn it).

To BaNTeR: You're so sweet! I try to be a good girlfriend, but trust me, it doesn't always work out the way I want it to. I tend to make a lot of mistakes. Oops! Hahah. And THANK YOU for the twitter update from Matt and your reassuring words. I'm crossing my fingers that my boyfriend likes the show. I'm going to basically force him to stay in his seat for the entire duration of the concert...even Dream Theater. I paid a lot of money for those tickets. He WILL enjoy himself, even if I have to force it out of him. (;

ONE MORE QUESTION: Sorry, I'm just so out-of-the-loop when it comes to concerts. So on the tickets I purchased, it just states 8:00 pm. Is that when Dream Theater goes on to perform, or is that when doors open? I definitely want to make sure we get there so he can relax and enjoy Trivium (or else, what was the point of buying the tickets?). What time would you suggest getting there? A few hours earlier? I feel so dumb...

Again, any and all information would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you guys so much! (:

@kay123:

haha! 8pm that should be when the doors open. I imagine. I start queing @ 2pm here in the United Kingdom, so I can get to the front. But I dunno, some of my friends went to see Slipknot here and missed one of the support bands Children Of Bodom due to the long ques.. you should be fine. Get to the venue 2/3 hours before.. if you're not to keen on queing, just to be safe
