How do you want Shogun to sound like?

they lost plenty of fans when they released the crusade also.
The Crusade sold very well - pretty much outselling Ascendancy in nearly every international market.

well, there goes my theory then...
so why have they started screaming again?
i missed it, but it seems kinda fishy

i agree with that guy above
the lyrics seam like they'll be more mature like that of ember to inferno... the song titles remind me alot of embers, just a bit more mature and probably more complex... should be interesting.
the overall guitar tones i think will be bigger like ascendancy, but better. They should definitly be close because of the recent(well i guess it's been a year) switch back to the peavey 5150/6505's, which are of course the same amps used on ascendancy and not shitty marshall DSL's like on the crusade. The marshall tone is great for bands like slayer, bands that have used marshalls since the beginning of time and have based their sound on that style. Trivium seems to have a guitar style... that's more suited to a higher gain, ballsier amp... such as the 6505... so i think the guitars are going to sound more ascendancy-ish(which if anyones heard rain... fucking sick) but probably even better since it's been a few years and they can utilize their tools better.
as for the overall music, i think they'll use the 7 strings more... play more complex... and continue with that progish feel we hear in becoming the dragon. I can't picture this album being too thrashy... just more balls out prog. I expect them to continue on that becoming the dragon direction, but even better.
vocals sound like... a better ascendancy style. Less monotoned screams, improved cleans, both with better range, and a more aggressive sort of crusade vocal style...
to sum it up...
a cd full of becoming the dragon but with
more balls,
ascendancy meets crusade and then is supercharged vocals
better heavier more ascendancy-like guitar tones,
lyrics like ember,
and overall improvement all around...

The Crusade sold well because all of the created expectations after Ascedancy... RR gave Trivium more promotion and room... the fans bought the album just cause they had to.... just like what will happen now with Shogun...
The screaming is back cause that's what Trivium is about... metalcore? heavy metal? heavytrashmetalpopcore? whatever...

so what was the point of matt saying he hated screaming then? if screaming is what trivium is about. he could have just as easily said "i just wanted to try something different for the crusade". without acting like the vocals on the ascendancy and eti were terrible.

Matt has said a lot of things in press - probably everything he meant at the time he said it. But people change and viewpoints change and life goes on. Matt is using screams in the new music because the new music calls for it.

July 31, 2008 3:38:31 AM UTC Post #150

Yeah, people change...
Matt stopped screaming for two fundamental reasons I believe... screaming was never the first choice, he had to scream cause he couldn't sing when he was younger... second, the screaming was totally hurting his throat... you can notice this on The Crusade's Becoming The Dragon and now on Kirisute Gomen... the screaming is damn brutal and I totally love it but is not what you hear on Ember To Inferno and Ascendancy.
This is why Matt will probably never scream live again... but I think he realized that he has a really powerfull voice and Shogun, the music, and Trivium... they all worth the effort and the pain...
