How do you want Shogun to sound like?

How come people never blame Godsmack, Nickelback, Nirvana, etc etc (the list goes on) for using a "raspy" singing style? I mean, there are tons of bands out there that do it, yet since Trivium plays metal sounding music that has a modern feel to it, people bash the crap out of them... There's not a single guitar riff that I can say that sounds like Metallicas riffs... They're so different... Though people say Unrepentant's intro sounds like metallicas Through the Never intro, I can feel and hear the difference, it has a completely different outcome, and it's heading in a different direction than what Through The Never is going in.
Also, Through The Never starts off on an open note, then closes into frets, then repeats repeats repeats, then a sudden change into the verse, while Unrepentant starts off on a fretted note and then flies off into an open note then into a fretted "lead" type fill, in which have 3 or more varied different endings that lead into a transition into to the first verse.....
You can grab any 4 or 5 notes that are next to each other from band A, in any song, and then grab a list of bands that put those notes side by side all day... Doesn't mean that band A stole or copied anything. So other than that, every Trivium song (musical wise) is a 90 degree turn away from metallicas music, I really don't see a resemblance...

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. While there was a time when it was 'cool' to hate Trivium, I think a lot more people are giving them a chance now. They're such a big band and it's inevitable that some people will talk shit about them, it happens to any band who is popular and talked about a lot. Their fanbase is huge though and represents a big part of the metal community, who respect them and enjoy their music.

Yeah, I agree with Ellie.
It seems like a lot more people are accepting them and enjoying their music.
I can only imagine how much more attention they'll get when Shogun comes out...

i totally agree with that. there are so many mainstream bands that have ripped off other mainstream bands. like godsmack copies alice in chains so much. the singer from seether wants to be kurt cobain. nickelback...they just suck. i dont know who they try to rip off, or why theyre even on roadrunner. haha
i mean, awesome, matt heafy did raspy vocals for an album(experimenting). james hetfield had the same type of vocal style. chuck billy from testament had a vocal style, which i think was very similar to that. its a vocal style, not a voice.
you hear so many death metal bands, and alot of those vocalists, i believe, have the exact same voices.
same with black metal guitars. just like the super fast and super low guitars.
no disrespect to those genres of metal, im just trying to make a point.

There's actually quite a lot of variation in the styles, it's just a matter of listening to it so you can point it out.
I do understand where your coming from though
