How To Record Professionally (Any Tips?)

I'm fascinated by the quality of music these days. Like compare the quality of ETI to The Crusade, the Crusade is much better.
Anyways, I've always wondered this; when recording how do you get say all the drums, bass and vocals stop and it's just guitar playing, how do you get it to go into one speaker?

its all panning tricks, mastering, mixing and editing. And most of it can be done on oyur home PC

Sound On Sound have some pretty good articles on recording and mastering.
when you get your head around things it becomes a doddle.
