What do you all think? Yes I know I'm sloppy, and yes I know the solo isn't too impressive, fuck off

Not bad at all dude. You're clean guitar sounds pretty good, but the distortion doesn't fit in with the rest of the riff imo

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I agree, the distortion is really crunchy, scooped, and distant, while the clean guitars are warm, bright, and intimate.
Do you think I should change the distorted tone to be warmer or should I just get rid of it and do something else there?

I'd give it a little more low end, and bring them through the mix just a tad more, so they accentuate the great clean parts on that passage. Its a really nice piece of work though.

Cool, I didn't think it was very good
A lot of other people have been saying the same thing about the distorted parts, I tried just EQing them a bit and I didn't like how it came out, it just doesn't do the job like my amp EQ. Those tracks will just have to be recorded again. I'm gonna wait until I get new strings to do that, it's been like a month since I changed them and they're getting pretty dull sounding.

A month? You must be very particular.
I change mine every 6 months, and they're 9-42's.

I play 10's, they're the DR coated black beauties too, so they do last longer. I can play with old strings for a long time, but when I go to record with them, the dullness really shows. The tracks don't compress right, and they are a lot harder to mix without tedious EQing. I can still do it, but I have to settle for a just decent sounding mix with none of the nice subtle nuances and less clarity. I just can't handle that, I want it to sound as good as I can make it sound. When I'm sitting at my computer for hours laying down tracks, it becomes painfully obvious when I need need new strings. It drives me crazy because I know when I get new stings I'll probably re-record all of the tracks anyway...
I guess you could say I'm very particular about my tone. I'd change my strings every two weeks if I could afford it. I notice a huge change in tone after the two week mark, especially with the already duller 10's. When they're new I love the sound, they sound heavier than 9's and they're still pretty bright, but when they get older, they get muddy.

You probably do this already, but making sure you wipe your strings down after you finish playing helps to keep them cleaner and brighter.
