One-off gigs annoy me. Hammerfall have never played in Scotland before and Dream Theater haven't played since 98 or something.
Don't blame the bands, blame the booking agents and promoters - if you really want them to play then do something about it, even if it's just hassling a local promoter to book the bands next time they tour...

I'm not blaming the bands. I would love my local promoter were to book HammerFall, but the venues are just titchy clubs and pubs.

So? Do you really think Hammerfall would need a venue bigger than that in Scotland anyway? They're hardly going to get thousands turning out to see them after all!
As long as the promoter can sort out a decent deal as part of a tour (one-off gigs are obviously more expensive) and the band don't ask for a stupidly high fee/ridiculous rider then you may be surprised at who you can get playing where - I've seen the likes of Behemoth and Decapitated play dingy little clubs that have about a 200 capacity and only last month I saw Reverend Bizarre play in the back room of a grotty old pub...

They would likely play Glasgow Garage but I doubt they'd come all the way to play something like Dundee Reading Rooms.
Well OPM did, so you never know...

You never know indeed, if a (local) promoter books a band and treats them well then most bands are happy to play pretty much anywhere...
