As far as I know, his latest Silverburst Les Paul uses EMG 81/85's with the chrome cover. His black Les Paul uses the regular black EMG 81/85's. You can replicate his guitars, but replicating his tone isn't as easy. They do use preamps, compressors, etc. when they play live and what-not. Look for your own sound, and tweak it from there. We all love different artists' different tones, but at the end of the day - you want to be able to have a tone that you can call your own. _______________________________

I’m always asked about my tone – ‘Do you have a giant eq rack, fx processors, compressors, walls of bleeping lights and shit? Nope, I’ll tell you what I have: my Les Paul, a Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 head, everything turned up, into a Marshall 1960 BV wall of cabs. The DSL is basically an encapsulation of everything that is the sound that will ‘tear your face off’, the DSL is my tone: loud, aggressive and crystal clear. |

In the latest interview I heard with Matt about gear. He pretty much said it's his head, cab, noise gate, and possibly and overdrive pedal (maxon od808 or mxr). Super simple. Now a days he's using the Marshall JVM head but aside from that it's pretty much the same setup. I think reaper has it pretty much down. Wagner also has a good point.

@KGGeorgiou: Straight into a PA? Really? Interesting. Making me think of the rig setup Paolo showed in the demos video using the speaker emulator as you just said. I'd imagine he'd use a emulator as well. I couldn't picture using a direct out from the head straight into a PA. Anything's possible though _______________________________

@KGGeorgiou: Damn, that's the way to go. To hell with lugging a 100 lb cab around haha.

You know that quote that you just got from the Marshall website is like 5 years old, right? ____________________________________________

@VILARIKA: I figured the quote must have been pretty old when I saw JCM 2000 .
