Each song has to be treated individually, you cant just say all metal ballads suck or whatever. There's good metal ballads and bad ones too, unsuprisingly. Fade To Black is an example of a good one imo.

Sonata Arctica ballads are awesome IMO. I love songs like Last drop falls, Tallulah, Replica etc

Replica was really good on there live album "For the sake of revenge", the first solo is awesome.

Shamandalie and the version of Gravenimage were a lot better than replica IMO.
