I think both albums have their own merits. The self-titled is way more consistent and is loaded with the trademark melodies that made Ensiferum so well-liked in the metal community. On the other hand, Iron has some of the band's strongest and weakest material (pre-Victory Songs, anyway). Iron's intro track is one of the most interesting pieces Ensiferum ever composed, and the title track was the perfect lead-off track that lays waste to "Hero in a Dream." Similarly, "LAI LAI HEI" is one of Ensiferum's strongest tracks that isn't really equalled on the self-titled album (at least, in my opinion). The lowpoints of Iron come with some of the material that comes between these fantastic bookends. |

I'd go with Iron as well, but it's really unnecessary to draw comparisons when they're both obviously albums of a very high calibre. |
