I don't know, I don't bother trying to figure that shit out. Music is about feeling not numbers to me personally.

Thats how I feel. Sometimes musicians try to be too technical, I like the feel sort of thing.

I agree with that, i was just wondering what times you were experimenting with 'cos Matt said in an interview somewhere (might of been Kerrang) that In Sadness We'll Sear was the first you guys had used 5/4 and theres some wierd time changes in the intro of Detonation.

You will hear it when its out. Like I said, I don't care about time signatures, because math isn't fun, playing songs is.

QUOTE(Asphyxiated.)QUOTE(GREGDOUT)Is it or is it not fact that asphyxiated was at triviums recording for the new record? out of all the people in this topic i think he would know if triviums sound has changed for marketing.
Never once did they say anything like "hey we should make this appeal more it's too heavy" Or anything stupid like that. They were in the studio having fun with recording their new album, and the only thing they talked about was how badass a part was, or how heavy a riff was, or how something needed to be tweaked a bit.
It's not like they're shooting to be the next linkin park. lol.

I agree with Dustin. This change has never been about making more money, marketing reasons, or any shit like that. I think the main reason for the change, that you have to keep in mind the most, is that this time the rest of the band was invloved with the whole process.
If i remember correctly, it was pretty much matt that wrote most of ETI and Ascendancy so its fair to say it was more of what he was into and what he wanted to. Paolo want in Trivium when eti was recordedand even when when Ascendancy was recorded. forgive me if im wrong. So this time it wasnt just what Matt wanted to do but what the band wanted to do as a whole. Each band member was able to participate in the process and that itself eventually lead to change.

Trivium changed their style because the new sounds better than the old.
