The Furies are part of Greek and Roman Mythology. Essentially, they are the goddesses of vengeance - Alecto (anger), Tisiphone (avenger of murder) and Megaera (jealous). If I remember correctly, the Furies would punish people who broke the rules of society. They had snakes for hair and blood came out of their eyes. Sometimes they are portrayed as having a dog's body or wings. They are Gaia and Uranus's children, but also known as the Children of the Night.
Edit - just having another look at the title of the song - 'He Who Spawned the Furies' - I guess that is referring to Cronos.

No problem :)
Just thought I would expand on that last part too, considering it's to do with the title.
Cronus was the God of the ages and time, and the son of Uranus (Ouranos), the Sky. Cronus castrated his father, and from the blood rose the Furies (also known as Erinyes, but I may have spelt that wrong lol).
Roman and Greek mythology is all intertwined - the Romans tended to be lazy and stole a lot of it from the Greeks, who did it all first. Therefore, most myths and legends are a part of both, but there are variations and different names etc. So it is all quite confusing, but incredibly fascinating. Unfortunately I don't have my books with me cos I am house-sitting, so most of my info is off the top of my head.

^^ lol no probs :)
And I guess it makes it easier to remember when you really really enjoy reading about all that. I mean, ask me what the square root of 102 is and I couldn't tell you... lol. I took Classical Studies in school and it was the only subject I liked, apart from Geography.
So I'm liking the change in direction here :D

I am very interested in all these stories and myth's, i think its a really cool lyrics subject that can be referred literally but also have different meanings
Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis is about being closed in by two dangers, if you move away from one of them there will still be another danger which you are getting closer to. :)

One thing matt has always been excellent at is attacking his views on society and things that he feels through songs, but in a manner where he isnt directly saying what he feels, but making it to where the listener has to come up with there own conclusions. The best songs are written this way, and hes pretty dam good at doing it.

virtue2vice, I see you like the mythology as well, like myself. But I have been lazy for a long time, so I haven't read anything new or something.
Hope Trivium did a good job with those songs. It's never to late to learn something new. 8)
