Opinion on EMG pickups?

=thy_blade said:Well, i think it really depends on the guitar you use. If you put active emgs on a gibson/epiphone les paul it will sound great. These pickups work really good with the les paul body construction, in my point of view it's the best combination.
But they also sound good with a lot other guitars of course, it's just a matter of trying ;)

With EMG's the guitar doesn't matter so much that's basically why they're notorious they'll sound mostly the same whether it's in a les paul custom, or like in Robb Flynn's case a cheap bolt on acryllic bc rich warlock. Or Corey said it better when he said "you can put emg's in your kitchen counter and it'll sound awesome", now passive pickups are a whole different story, those rely heavily on wood tonalitys and all that jazz.

As for EMG's being muddy, I can't really comment on that since I don't know your amp settings or when you last put in a new battery, I just know from my personal experience that I've never had a problem with muddiness.

Everyone has their own opinion on active pickups. Personally, all my guitars I have, have EMGs in them. Sometimes you do lose some clarity of notes I do agree. I personally have an EMG 85 in my bridge and an 81 in the neck. The only other pickup I've honestly really liked next to EMGs are DiMarzios. Definitely a good chunky pickup.
