QUOTE(Glenn)QUOTE(Northern_Wrath)Labrie is such a bad singer. The guy may have perfect pitch, no doubt, his range however is not that great. He can do alot in the upper reaches, but nothing lower. His vocal lines are uninspired, oh and, Russell Allen destroys EVERY bit of Labrie on the vocal level. Totally. Thats the one thing that lacks in DT's music is Labries vocals. He has no power. Go see SX live, and hear Allen WAIL and then compare it to Labries non existent presence on the microphone. He is quite possible one of the most useless vocalists in music. Except on Octavarium. I will give him that, he did a GREAT job on Octa. Everything else hwoever, was lackluster in comparison to what the rest of the band managed to do.
His range is amazing. If you are doubting his lower stuff listen to songs like Space-Dye Vest and Vacant. His soft singing is godly. But I do agree, Russell slays him. But Russell's soft singing isn't as good, imo. But Russell slays almost every metal vocalist power wise except Dio of course.
Thats because nobody can touch Dio.
But Russells range is so much more then Labries. Like I've said I've only really dug the last album, in terms of manageable quantities of Labrie. He ruins most DT songs for me. ON some of the softer ones off the older stuff, its manageable. But on the heavier stuff, his vocals add nothing. He has no power. In comparison to other singers out there, hes nowhere near godly when it comes to any form of singing, soft or harder, high range or low. There are too many singers better then him, he barely rates man.
That is ofcourse my opinion only, but I've heard so many better then him.

I agree that Lebrie wasn't the best choice for DT, and he definitely is the only flaw in the band. But I like some of his work and his tone has grew on me. And yes he is an amazing soft singer, his voice is made for soft singing. I really do wish Dream Theater had a better singer though, they would be almost unbeatable if they had someone like Roy Khan on vocals

THey would be. Thats the only thing that detracts form the music for me. The vocals are soo hard to get into.
