Poetic Analysis - Sonnets

Can someone please describe to me what a sonnet is and how it is used in poetry.
I am comparing " Dulce Et Decorum Est " and " Anthem For Doomed Youth ", both by Wilfred Owen and any help on either of these, with strong emphasis on the form/structure of " Anthem For Doomed Youth " would be greatly recieved.

I just studied sonnets from Whitman.
And I have studied 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' before.
Boring poem.
