Raised to the Ground

Raised to the Ground began in December 2008 when 3 members of former band “Reaper” invited Conan Heffernan (vocalist, guitarist) into the band. The members decided on the name as a play on the phrase “Razed to the Ground” and like the idea of using an oxymoron (two contradictory terms in this case Raised and Ground).

As a Killswitch/Trivium/As I Lay Dying/metalcore fan I can dig this. It's not an bad effort even if it is part of a "dying" style. But it does have room for improvement, especially if you do want to get your name out there.
But Im sure in time you guys will only get better. Personally, I think you need to experiment with more tempo changes then just the mid tempo range. I mean, GO FASTER lol But that's up to you guys.
And tell the vocalist to not be so "throaty" with his harsh vocals He'll damage them that way lol Use your diaphragm to push the scream. (Y)
I respect that you understand that any opinion, positive or negative is an opinion. I told someone their band was shite and they took it too personally. Very unprofessional behaviour on their part I think.

Thanks man, much appreciated! Vocal comments taken on board (i'm the vocalist/guitarist but shhh! haha) and we're also really experimenting with tempo changes in the new stuff, leaning towards more progressive timings. There's a small example of the in the track Your Freedom, My Burden with the tempo changes. That's the last song i wrote for the E.P and have expanding on it alot more since. Hopefully these suggestions can be ironed out on our next recording venture and then we'll go through the whole constructive critisicm ordeal again
Thanks again!

Raised To The Ground...I see you what did there with that band name. Very unorigional, as is the sound. Totally not my thing and you're only here to spam.

OK. I'll be constructive (if I may). You're music is good for what it is (there are alot of people in a similar position to yourselves who cant even be bothered to play articulately whilst recording) but this type of playing doesnt really have any real longevity or oppurtunity to diversify and excel above playing tiny gigs in the middle of nowhere, because the fad is dying. I would suggest that when you guys tire of this, you really begin trying to hone your craft as players and come back with something a little more dynamic. I admire the fact you guys are probably just starting your forays into metal, but as you get older, you'll find your tastes changing and you'll definitely not be playing this stuff. Becoming more proficient musicians will invariably give your music more of an edge, as it will force you to challenge yourself in order to maintain progress, so get practising and listening to every piece of metal you can get a hold of, and just enjoy the process. Dont be disheartened by wizened old metalheads, croaning on about whatever.

Thanks man, much appreciated! Constructive critisicm is the best form of feedback. I know what your saying and I completely agree with you. That record sounds like it does as we are still trying to find our sound and as a new band tend to gravitate towards our influences (as I'm sure you will understand and appreciate). Since we formed in late December of last year we are trying to see what we are capable of and see the reactions we receive. Being strongly influenced by bands such as Trivium, As i lay Dying and Killswitch it is hard not to completely hide those influences and while we are not trying to replicate those bands we can't ignore tham altogether. At the end of the day we are playing the music we enjoy and it is true that time will change that but for the moment we are happy where we are.

I shall also be serious, but im half drunk so some things might not make complete sense. Your band name is terrble, it is beyond band and puts me off straight away. And then your songs are just normal boring metalcore structures. Nothing there interests me. Its all beyond standard and boring mate. The harsh vocals are reallly bad, theres no power there at all, it sounds like that dudes pushing a turd out. And youve even got the emo vocals in the chorus. You NEED to expand your influences, please. They are the wrong bands to be influenced by in all honesty. You say you're still finding your own sound, this is the wrong place to look for it in metalcore. Its a dried out genre that hardly anybody is a fan of anymore. Its not only because of that, taht you should move on, because the genre sucks man! You're redoing whats already been done a thousand times.
