R.I.P Chuck
December 13, 2008 12:04:24 PM UTC Post #11

why is it chuck is so highly regarded when paul speckman was doing it first with master or tom warrior from hellhammer?
dont get me wrong he was a tragic loss for the metal comunity however i feel that there are other peoples achivements who are being brushed under the carpet because of chuck.
rip chuck i loved your first two records and voodoocult.

I always think these RIP threads are stupid, especially since I didn't even listen to metal when he died...
I shall be giving my Death records a spin in honor of him though, haven't listened to them in a while.

Do you want the (obvious) answer? ...because Chuck is dead. Aswel as the fact that Death are very popular, of course.
Nobody has forgotten Speckmann or Warrior, and they never will.

I don't see how R.I.P. threads are stupid...It gives us all a chance to say what we feel about the person who they are about...
As far as Chuck goes, his music helped me get through some rough times in my life...And then just the fact that he was one of the most influential guitarists in history, and I think it is absolutely necessary to have a R.I.P. thread for him!

Paul Speckmann? Who's he then?
I'm not really one for this kind of thing every year myself, maybe "special" anniversaries but that's it.
What it does make me think though is, what the hell is taking so long with that tribute album James Murphy was supposedly putting together?! The money from it was supposed to go to the Schuldiner family to help with their legal and medical expenses (with some going to Chuck Billy for the same reasons) but, if they haven't already, then they're likely to have all been paid by the time this thing finally sees the light of day. If it ever does...

QUOTE(Rheehemoth @ Dec 13 2008, 04:12 AM) I think it's necessary because Chuck was basically the father of death metal, he was such a huge influence.
You wouldn't have so many of the bands that we all listen to today if it wasn't for him.
Doesn't really matter if you don't like Death, just respect the memory of someone who had such a huge part in forming extreme metal.
Oh please. It's not like he changed the world or anything. He never cured cancer, or ended a war, or ended racial opression.
