What kind of scales do trivium mainly use in their songs/solo's? |

They tend to veer more toward the D Jackoffian and a couple of other diminished things here and there, look at some of the Guitar World things |

I'm gonna take a guess that since most of ascendency is written in D minor, that they probably use that kind of scale. even if they change key its minor |
