Serious Discussion Thread

Like with General Discussion, this thread will deal with current events, and anything that is reported in the news.

QUOTEAn elderly woman has died and five other passengers have been seriously hurt in a train derailment in Cumbria.
Several carriages were left on their side after a Virgin London to Glasgow service crashed at Grayrigg, near Kendal, at 2015 GMT, at about 95mph.
Police said 22 people went to hospital and dozens more were "walking wounded".
Investigators say no cause has yet been established, but police said their inquiry was focusing on a set of points which could be "significant".
Rail union chief Bob Crow had earlier said he had been told the accident was because of a points failure.

When I first heard about this accident, I felt pretty shocked, as I thought this could have been as disastorous as the Paddington rail crash a few years ago. It's lucky no one else died. My thoughts go out to the family of the deceased woman.

Was pretty shocking. I read that despite the fact several carridges were hurled metres into the air and then back down that no windows were smashed and that none of the carridges had snapped in half etc.

The title of this thread is asking for trouble.

That's a reason i'm extremely afraid of riding in Trains.
I've heard of far too many of these accidents in canada.

I'm more scared of Boats and Planes myself. They scare the hell out of me.

You guys are so pessimistic. Cars are by far the most dangerous form of transport.

That's true, you wanna see some of these figures over here for car-related deaths. At least planes and boats etc can't run people over. Cars kill poeople outside and inside the veichle(sp).
Apparently you're more likely to get hit by lightning 3 times in a row than be in a Plane crash though.

Indeed, it takes one person doing something dumb to kill a lot of people. A couple years ago by my house a semi truck driver literally ran over a van witth a family of six in it and killed them all. I'm an extremely cautious driver and I am always watching the morons around me.

Exactly. Why worry?

You wanna go to Italy, they don't even wear setbelts. They say it shows a lack of confidence in their driving abilities. They're all nutters, same with India.

And Pakistan. You see 5 or 6 people hanging off the side of one motorcycle.
