Speed or Technique?

Posts: 27 Member #: 17,424 Joined: 09/15/2009	I was just wondering, do you guys prefer a guitarist who can play very fast, or someone who plays reasonably slow, but with a variety of riffs? I would probably say speed, but i would like to know other people's opinions. Also, if there is any guitarist's on this board (there probably is), how do you play?

Posts: 816 Member #: 12,596 Joined: 09/15/2009	musician's forum, dude. anyroad, i like a good mix between speed and technique. i like the way Joe Satriani plays, very minimally but he can burn up the fretboard when he wants to. atm i have a very strong alternate picking style, due to me being a massive Zakk Wylde fan for the last few years, but i'm starting to work on my legato and i'm learning how 'not to play', as it were, to know when to play and when not to

Posts: 27 Member #: 17,424 Joined: 09/15/2009	Thanks to whoever did this. I like the Sweet Child O' Mine solo that Slash busts out, he uses great speed and a bit of sexy riffage. He is a great guitarist, sadfully, he's not doing as good in Velvet Revolver as he did in Guns 'n' Roses.

Because that is not technqieu. neither is it "technique" to mix in a few good riffs in your playing. Some people, jesus christ its better when i don't look into these threads...

I'm crious to hear what you think it is. Plus, I'll go with technicallity. It's better have have a nice, complex, and diverse solo then rip through any mode as fast as you can.
