Sweep picking help?

When you do a three string sweep say
---------12---------
-----13-----13-----
-12-------------12-
---------------------
---------------------
---------------------
Are you suppsed to lift your fingers off for each note you play or can you just keep the same finger position and just sweep your right hand up and down the bridge?

If you don't lift your fingers off then it will sound more chordy rather than sweep picking. So it's best to slightly let up on the string and when you're going for the 12 on the G string with your left hand index finger try to muffle the e and B string so it doesn't give you a sloppy sound from lifting you fingers off the other notes. Then while going back down to the 13 and 12 on the B and e string, muffle or should I say palm mute the G string right after you lift your index finger off to reach the e string then same with the B string but with you middle finger. It's kind of light rolling you finger tips around.. not too noticable on 3 string sweeps but 4 - 6 string sweeps it's like your finger tips become a ball rolling over the strings..

That's a simple A Minor sweep. Always good to learn the basic soloing techniques

QUOTE(Terry @ Feb 20 2007, 08:15 AM) Yeah right now, I'm currently working on a 3 string sweep. The 6 string sweep in Detonation is a bit above my ability right now lol.

im pretty sure there isnt a six string sweep unless its in corey's solo.

sweep picking puts me in a bad mood lol but i still practise it every day and i can see the improvement ive made you just have to practise and practise. i hope im using the right practise cos theres practice as well isnt there? i saw matt heafy play a dream theater song on Scuzz which involved alot of sweep picking but i cant remember what song it was, but anyway i have a massive pile of different arperggio shapes in different keys so just ask and i can probs put some up here...if my mum hasnt chucked them out

I recently got tapping sweeps all sorted
It's pretty easy.. You just gotta get your hands in sync. Once you've gotten used to it you'll be able to do tonnes of sweep patterns with no trouble

Matt's second 2nd solo in detonation is quite easy. Just got to get the fast sweeping down.
