The Crusade is clearly not as good as Ascendancy

I think screaming is lame, and I'm glad its gone. Plus, ascendancy doesn't have a song as good as entrance or the crusade.

QUOTE(chris1987 @ Jan 20 2007, 11:14 PM) Say what you want, but The Crusade is quite clearly too old fashioned for today's market. Sometimes you can hear the true trivium coming through, but the "trash metal" sections seem original and boring to me. Detonation is a perfect example of this. The first half of the song is really tedious and uninteresting, then at 2:19 the metalcore beginnings of the band starts to shine through and I enjoy listening to the song more.
Another thing that worries me is that to me their songs are really lacking in emotion now. Especially in terms of the vocals. The decision to cut down on the growling has really stricken me as a strange one. Matt Heafy's vocals are by no means terrible, but they seem to lack the character and depth that the growling added to the music.
Also I feel that the quality of the riffs are generally better on Ascendancy and From Ember To Inferno. Not to say that the riffs in The Crusade are terrible, but they lack the punch that their previous albums had.
I'm sure I've missed a few things out that bug me about this album, but feel free to add to my post or argue against it.
All in all I think Trivium have tried a new direction and I applaud this brave move, but I hope they return to what they were doing before for their next album.
Well heres my 2 cents on the hole Acsendancy Vs. The Crusade thing
No matter what we will never have the old Trivium back, but looking back at it now thats kinda a good thing in my eyes.
the Song The Crusade for me was kinda like the plot twist at the end of a very good book that you couldent put down, Kinda Triviums way of saying "...on the next episode" etc etc if you get what i meen, if Trivium Follow the whole Heavy Prog style onto the next album then the Music itself will add so much more Emotion and feeling that the music on the Crusade lacked, so it will be a perfect mix of Acsendancy's Emotion and The Crusade's heavyness with something a little bit extra on the side aswell
The Crusade was just balls out metal! it kicked ass, however it was lacking something, but every album cant be perfect. thats impossible, and Triviums best is still yet to come!

The two albums are really different. I like them both and personally would struggle compare them.

The Crusade destroys Ascendancy in almost every single way.
On Ascendancy, they used pretty much the same song structure and key changes for every single song. Even the riffing style of *two palm muted ds, a diff note, two palm muted ds, another diff note* ect. was boring as fuck. All you metalcore fans can go ahead defending it, but the fact of the matter is The Crusade is just better music. Not only in the vocal department, which is better now that the screaming is limited. That makes it so that when there is screaming, it actually means something and sounds good. I just think that they got better at songwriting, riff writing, and music altogether.
And I don't know why the thread starter called it "trash" metal. The word is "thrash".
The only thing Ascendancy has on The Crusade is the duel guitar lead at the end of Gunshot.

well yeah I hope Triviums best will just come , I think in the song Broken One theres a lot of emotion, thats a little bit a mixing of the style ascendancy and the crusade

Minus the fact that it's nowhere near thrash. It's still metalcore/new wave American metal.

Still, I don't know why he called it "trash". I see people use that word everywhere, and I really dont get why.
