I really did not like this album at all, it was way too much like Metallica they should have stayed with their sound like on the first two albums.. But the guitars were alright on the album, but I heard better. To me the album is a waste,Matt needs to stop trying to be like James Hetfield, and start being himself. but that's just me.

That's just you, and half the other people that argue against The Crusade. Matt's being himself and no matter what you do on guitar someone's always heard better IMO.

I don't know if anyone reads 10 pages back, but i have to agree with some of the other posters who said this album wasn't all that. I've listened to it about 5 times now and I keep thinking I bought an old metallica cd instead of trivium, which left me feeling a little disappointed since I already own a bunch of metallica cd's. Granted there are a few bright spots which were pointed out many pages ago, but I hope that for the next album they go back to and beyond the sounds of Ember and Ascendancy. Having said that I still plan to be at the orbit room march 17th to hear you guys rock out w/ LOG.

All the metallica references are kind of crap in my opinion because they sound a lot more like other late 80's thrash bands than metallica.

Sure i like the crusade, but i cant believe matt ditched the singing style of ascendancy, i really loved that especially during "like light to the flies", and even on the ember to inferno there was some melodic singing during "falling to grey" and "ember to inferno" this is the trivium i LOVE! why did you go and change like this? i would buy sooo many albums if you change back lol or at least have some tracks like the ascendancy ones? and sadness will sear is my favourite so far from the crusade and i think unrepentant is the worst... what is up with those lyrics :S but still, trivium does as trivium does i still love your music guys! even if people do think its going mainstream.

QUOTE(We Are The Decieved @ Apr 8 2007, 11:36 AM) The crusade is just amazing, from begining to end you cannot beat it for variety of riffs, vocals, and drums That's what they lack, Variety for each song. Refer http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?albumid=12471 this guy is very good. I still like however, easy listening

Well this is my first post and i want to start off by saying that The Crusade is a decent album. Not exactly the best album, but it's still something to watch out for. Ignition - Not the best opener but at least it has a powerful intro. The lyrics are pretty bland and the solo just consist of speed and no much more. On the rhythm section (being a rhythm guitarist) its pretty interesting. 6/10 Detonation - One of my fav. songs on the album. Great intro, nice chord progression and the best shift in a song that i have ever heard trivium do. Thrashy, yet soft. Great solos towards the end. A must learn for guitar players. 10/10 Entrance of the Conflagration - I will be honest. The first time i heard this song was when it was on the Headbangers ball, and i caught it in the middle. First thought i had was, Metallica sure got a new sound. Then i realized it was Trivium. Its a good song with a nice story to go along with it. The rhythm is amazing and the solos are something to bow down to. one of the best on the CD. 8/10 Anthem - An 80's chant song. Reminding me of Kiss. Its a good song to learn to play. the lyrics are simplistic but the solos are great. 7/10 Unrepentant - Some what of a slow point in the album, since the songs before it have been heavy. Its a sad song with decent guitar work. I dont really like the rhythm section for it and its not really one of my fav. songs to listen to. the solos are decent. 5/10 And Sadness Will Sear - Great Use of the 7 string guitar. Its got a heavy yet melodic tone to it. And the lyrics are great. The solo matches well with the song. 8/10 Becoming the Dragon - Starting off with a semi-decent solo, and a borderline boring rhythm section. but they it reaches its peak with a great breakdown and a nice solo. It also has a brilliant use of the 7th string. This song ended up being one of my fav. songs. it grows on you. 8/10 To the Rats - The most Thrash song on the album. Something for all the trivium haters to listen to. Its got speed, heaviness, and the damn dime squeal. 7/10 This World Can't Tear Us Apart - Beautiful song. Nice lyrics and an overall great song to listen to. Its has a nice bridge section and the solo plays off it nicely. 8/10 Tread the Floods - At first I didnt really like this song, until i listened to it some more. I wait until it gets to the solo section and the rhythm just changes. Nice shift and nice solo to go along with it. Then its right back to what it was before just a fast. 6/10 Contempt Breeds Contamination - My fav. Intro on the album. One of the better songs on the CD. Nice solos, and nice bridge section. its got decent lyrics. and its also a really sad story. 8/10 The Rising - For all the bashers on the this song, its just amazing. It got endless rhythm and a great 80s feel to it. The lyrics are great, the solos are 2 seconds away from sex. I would say the song is mainly to play live. Its still one of the better songs on the album. 9/10 The Crusade - Nice instrumental. Paolo's solo was good to hear (about time man) and the random shifts in the songs were great. Only pet peeve about it was it was repeative. In the end of the song it reminds me of stratovarious, with the sweeps. Great instrumental. 10/10 Overall the CD was great, for some it felt as if Trivium sold out, to others it felt as if Trivium was evolving. I personally loved it and listen to it everyday. Overall CD gets a 8/10

1. Ignition Catchy intro, the verse is interesting, but I'm not all that keen on it, pre chorus is awesome & goes into the chorus perfectly, the chorus is my favourite part, awesome riff & the piano is a sounds great! The bridge is kind of boring & the solo is quite boring. 6/10 2. Detonation Great intro into a powerful verse, great drumming from Travis on this song. Corey's first solo is incredible! Great shift into a catchy softer riff. I love Corey's second solo, he is so skilled! Matt's sweeps are incredible & fit the song so easily, & go straight into another simple & slow yet effective solo. 9/10 3. Entrance Of The Conflagration Incredibly catchy & fast verse & great drum beat into the chorus, the chorus is very unique & I love it! The fast section fits great & goes straight into a great solo section, both the solo's are mind blowing as always! I absolutely love Matt's picking at 2:56. 10/10 4. Unrepentant Great opening into a powerful verse & great vocals by Matt, the chorus has a catchy riff & powerful vocals. The bridge on this song is one of my favourite's on the album, I love playing it on guitar. Bloody great solo, fits the song perfectly then it goes back into that bridge riff I love so much! 9/10 5. And Sadness Will Sear Low powerful intro, I'm not keen on the verse, a little to quiet. The chorus is mind blowing! powerful vocals from Matt. Great trem picking bridge, I love the effect. The solo is great as always, I love the sweeps at the end. The last chorus has a different riff, I don't like it as much as the other chorus riff, but it is effective! 8/10 6. Becoming The Dragon Great intro solo into the very effective verse, great bridge on this song, & some great screaming from Matt! All the solo's on this song are mind blowing although I think the second solo drags on to long. 9/10 7. To The Rats Fast intro & catchy drum beat through the verse, the chorus is great, awesome tapping before a effective harmonic (I think...) solo & a dime squeal that brings it back to the chorus. 8/10 8. This World Cant Tear Us Apart Very catchy intro riff into a great 7 string verse, the chorus uses the same riff as the intro & sounds freaking awesome! Great palm muted bridge leading into a mind blowing solo with some great sweeps. The chorus after the solo is in s different key for the first time then it goes back to normal then it goes up in pitch, then into Matt's solo, mind blowing solo, so fast & a great ending to this beautiful song. 10/10 9. Tread The Floods Great intro, I don't like the verse much, it's to plain. The chorus for this song is brilliant, the bridge is fast & leads straight into the solo, nothing special, but it fits the song well. 6/10 10. Contempt Breeds Contamination The intro sounds a bit odd as a intro, but it works all the same. The verse uses the same riff as the intro, great vocals from Matt. Nice slow chorus, I love it. The solo is nothing special. Outro solo is fucking amazing, apart from the last 2 notes I thought they didn't really fit. 6/10 11. The Rising Great intro leading into a high solo that fits so well. Powerful vocals from Matt in the verse. I don't really like the guitar for the chorus, but the vocals are amazing! The second solo fits well. Great bridge leading into a amazing solo. The chorus after the solo is just with bass & the guitars come in the second time around, this works really well! Another mind blowing outro solo that fits the song so well. 8/10 12. The Crusade Some great guitar for the first part leading into some great bass by Paolo I love the bit after this, so powerful! The tapping section sounds amazing. After the tapping there is an amazing bass solo by Paolo, this is one of my favourite parts of the song. Great solo just after the bass solo the rest of the song is mainly one long mind blowing solo & a great outro riff. 10/10 Overall Great album, some of it is quite plain but most of it is amazing! The solo's on The Crusade blew me away. 8/10
