Nice review
If only I was bothered to put mine together like that.
But I'm not.

A really outstanding album. But it's only flaw was that it was a bit political. When you read the lyrics you can see that it is political and if you want to debate me about it, go ahead, PM me and see what I can come up with. lol.
The best song on that entire album is This World Can't Tear Us Apart. I'd give the album an overall rating of minimum 7/10, maximum 9/10.

really nice to see PAOLO taking time for Trivium's fans here on the boards...shows how much u care about your fans and that you're not some ego tripped band who believes their "too worthy" to speak to certain people etc u get my point.
keep it up..!

I thought The Crusade was shit to be honest, Asendancy pisses all over it in every way. Never been more dissapointed to see a proper metal band fag out with trash like The Anthem and the other pish that Paulo wrote that basically sounds like a Def Lepard cover. All they are interested in is getting big and famous, and so they commited the cardinal sin of selling out their sound to please the record companies. If they would just be honest and admitt as such instead of lying to everyone that it was matts life at risk, or Matt couldn't sing, even though he managed a fairly good job of it on the previous two albums many non-screaming sections, etc, we would probably have more respect for them, but as it is, they are kids trying to be big boys and looking stupid for it. Matt needs to take over writing again, he has the talent, the others clearly do not, they might be good musicians, but they can't write shite between the three of them without Matt. They need to add a bit of passion to the music that was so sorely missing from The Crussade, a bit of aggression never hurt no-one...

You're entitled to your opinion on the album, either you like it or you don't.
But your blowing smoke from your ass if you think the label tells Trivium what to write and record. Trivium do what they want to do musically and have since day one. All Roadrunner has ever said to Matt, Travis, Corey and Paolo is to bring us a Trivium album.
As far as Matt's voice, no one ever said that it was a matter of life and death if he kept on screaming. He has never liked screaming and has said so on numerous occasions. Matt just doesn't want to do the screaming and chance screwing up his singing voice. Besides Corey does a great job of doing the screaming parts of the older songs.
And I guess you will be really dissappointed that all of Trivium have a hand in writing the next album. I've only heard the demo once and I can say that it is kind of a mix between "Ascendancy" and 'The Crusade". only stepped up to a higher plain musically.

Dude, if anything, The Crusade was step away from being big and popular. They turned away from the popular metal-core scene and decided to go in a different direction. If they kept doing Ascendancy, they would be sell-outs. Not going where your heart wants you to go. A true band follows their musical integrity and goes by it. Wherever they want to go, and not caring if they'd make it big or not. The Crusade is where they honestly wanted to go, and you can clearly see the similar style in the earlier demo's.
Trivium are not a band cut out for the metalcore scene, and went a different direction, sure, it was a success, but it could have been a huge failure resulting in a big fan backlash and media abandonment.
How does screaming make a record or song aggresive anyway? There are plenty of more aggresive bands that don't do metalcore screams.

Lol... What the hell are you talking about?

The musical direction, retard.
The early demo's like The Storm and Demon have similarities with The Crusade. More similar than Ember To Inferno.
It seems as though they wanted to get popular by making metalcore records, then attempting to make real metal when they were more popular.

I mean the whole arrangement, not just the vocals, the music changed, the sound changed, they up tuned, they even lost most of the melodic parts, all in all I see a band trying desperately to be the next big thing, as they always spout on about, rather than just being a fucking excellent band, and never mind genre lables, Trivium defined a sound on Asendancy, it will probably be the only album of its type for a very long time, if that makes sense...
