^ I get what you mean, at times my concentration wandered a bit - but I think that was mainly due to the song lengths. When I listen to Opeth, im happy that the tracks go that long...but 6 minutes per track on average of Trivium is a bit much for me.
Still - I enjoyed the majority of Shogun. Just some moments (The Calamity and Throes of Perdition for starters) didnt do it for me.

Well I sat in awe at the quality of the album with 3 friends.
We are all 18/19 and we pretty much agreed it was one of the best if not the best album of our generation.
The music is so mature and encorperates everything possibe: Heaviness, Melody, Technicality, Epicness, and the whole album is pretty much riffage.
10/10
Best Album of their career.
Best Album of the year easily.
Can't pick out favourites, there is too much. But I absolutely fuckin' love the chorus in Of Promethus, and the beginning of Torn Between Scylla & Charybdis and Throes of Perdition.

It's cool what they tried to accomplish, I mean, I'm all about epic metal albums. They just didn't write music that was entertaining enough to keep my attention.

I actually wasnt expecting all that much, id just about forgotten that an album was coming out. Its better than I thought itd be - maybe because I had no expectations?
It wont be among my albums of the year, but theres still stuff here to go back on and listen to. I lump it with new Slipknot and Metallica - enjoyable for what they are, my expectations are such that im usually happy with what comes from them (besides St Anger in Metallicas case, obviously).

i thought it was an ok album. Seems like this should have come out before the crusade. I liked a few songs but nothing really stuck out to me. I'm still on a death magnetic high though (i dont think its gonna top it IMO). I'm gonna listen to it again though

WOW I love this albulm. No songs beats a gunshot to the head of trepidation but the albulm overall is my favorite.
Had two mock exams today and just kept thinking about the songs. got the lyrics from shogun stuck in me head.
Favs: Shogun, Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis, Throes Of Perdition, Insurrection...
Best albulm of the year easily. Still buying the special edition tho, have to import it tho so it will take some time getting here.

Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis is the best song by far

Damn..!
It's good, really good. But I can't share an objective opinion with you, since I still haven't really heard it all that well; a couple of more listens should do it.
But I have a whole another thing to say - this fucking made me save some more money and somehow get all the Trivium albums (I'm a great fan of the band, but I don't have their single original album; it's because of where I live; all releases whatsoever take some extra time to even get to my country's stores [like Metallica now], and Metal records/bands are in the noticeable minority). Probably gonna order it all OnLine, as soon as I have my credit card...
Btw, I loved 'Ember to Inferno', 'Ascendancy' and 'The Crusade' almost equally. I really did (and still do). Hope 'Shogun' will grow on me just as well...

But well done Trivium, although this album will be bashed to fuck, you've done a bloody good job.

Agreed. I think it's my new favourite by them.
What happened to the Halford style high pitched vocals? I've heard all the songs bar one and so far nothing.
