i doubt it, when i saw them live the sounds werent consistant enough for triggers
(not slating Travis, but not every hit sounded like the last )

Travis uses triggers only on his kick drums, along with a mic set-up, but most people don't pick up on that.

Can someone explain to the n00bs of the board what exactly triggers are and what they do.

Simply put, triggers are electronic sensors mounted on the drum that picks up the vibration when you hit it and sends the signal to a processer when you can change the sound to suit your taste and then sends the signal on to the amp.
It's kinda like pick-ups on a guitar.

so i guess thats why the kick sounded more clicky than a normal unprocessed, miced up drum? ingenious. i must have had a few more drinks than i thought, normally i pick shit like that up

Yep!
It doesn't make you faster, it just makes the sound of the drummer more consistent. And if you're like Neil Peart, he hooks his cymbals up to them and they go to a midi processor hooke dup to a midi patch for orchestra hits and hits them in his drum solo. The arch enemy drummer does this too.
