QUOTE(trivium101 @ Apr 23 2007, 12:30 PM) thanks alot mate, do you recon you could put up the notes on a 22 fret fretboard for d minor and f# minor?
The formula for a key is pretty simple when broken down.
First you need to know your stadard, sharp, and flat notes.
# = Sharp notes or notes in between standard notes that are a halfstep higher than the previous standard note.
b = Flat notes or notes in between standard notes that are a halfstep lower than the next standard note.
Notes are writen in two ways:
A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#.
Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, G.
For this example I'll use flat notes.
Second, you need to know that any minor key will follow the WHWWHWW formula. W = whole steps, H = half notes. (A step is considered to be two frets higher than the note you are on, and half-step is the fret next to the note your on.)
Third, when finding the key you take you root note (they key you want to bey in), D in this case, and it becomes the note which the key is constructed around.
So with that you begin on a D and apply the formula according to the notes starting on D and making sure you finish on the D an octave higher. (Notes in () are notes in the scale.)
(D) Eb (E) (F) Gb (G) Ab (A) (Bb) B © Db (D)
\ / \/ \ / \ / \/ \ / \ /
W H W W H W W
So yeah, thats the best job I can do of expaining it on a computer. If you have any questions.
P.S. If you find your self writing out a key and it has two of the same letters in it, ie A A#, then change the second note to a flat of the next note so it would look like A Bb. It is more aesthetically pleasing if you do this and less confusing in the long run.

pretty much all of ascendency was in drop D and the crusade in E (normal tuning) except for like 4 songs which were a bit below drop c and were played on seven stringed guitars

Pretty much all D minor apart from Ascendancy, Suffocating Sight and The Decieved on ascendancy

yep, becuase the notes in that scale are D, E, F, G, A, Bb(A#), C,
trivium mainly stick to minor of the scale, not always d though

April 22, 2007 6:59:46 AM UTC Post #9

no the key is the scale in which those note belong to, So if its A minor, like anthem, the notes would be A,B, C,D,E,F,G, which is also the same notes as the C major scale

Most of the songs of Acendency are in the key of D. The Crusade is diffrent thou. a couple E (Entrance), Anthem is in the key of A etc.
