I don't think you ever have to change the springs. Well after a couple years it'd be a good idea, but generally, you just need to get it set up by a professional at least once a month. As with every guitar, your intonation and truss rod should be adjusted every time you put new strings on, or change tunings for an extended period of time.

You dont need a setup once a month! Most people recomend every three months! Just take your guitar into your nearest music shop and most of them will do the setup for you. Its not a good idea to do it yourself!

Or what you can do to check if your guitar needs to be setup is: play the harmonic on the 12th fret, use a tuner while doing this, then fret the 12th fret with the tuner again, if the two are badly out then it will nedd a setup, if not then it obviously doesnt!

It'd be better to do it on the 24th fret if you have it. The intonation gets worse, the higher the fret.

u better have a damn good tuner then. cheap tuners will not pick up harmonics at the 24th fret.

I have a crummy, 3 year old KORG tuner, and it picks them up every time.

well. korg is supposed to be really good... even the cheap stuff i guess. i have a boss tuner/metronome, i bought it because it had the metronome feature also, so that was cool. but i gota say i thought boss would be better. i dont know if its just this particular tuner or boss as a whole. but the tuner kinda sucks. i havent tried, but i dont think it would pick up a harmonic at 24 there...
