Trivium's Next Album
September 16, 2009 1:56:07 AM UTC Post #1

Well, we all have (or most of us have) heard the Crusade and formed our own opinions on it. What do you think (and I guess want) Trivium will do on their next album? Continue in this direction of more thrash-oriented metal, maybe do more 7-strings, more progressive style stuff, ect. Yes it's early to be discussing, but I'm just curious about what other people think.
Personally, I'd like to hear them put out just a better album all together. I love the Crusade, but I think their potential as songwriters is even higher. I've also said this before in the review thread - I think that they can do so much better if they focus on making a classic album and not just a collection of independant songs. The riffs on this album are a big step up from previous albums, and I expect them to improve much more. I also think the 7 stringers have to go. They were good for "Becoming the Dragon" and "The Crusade", but the other songs, which I liked at first, are beginning to sound like Slipknot songs to me. Progressive is good, and sometimes having 7 string guitars can be useful, but if you are going to use them, you had better use them well.

Something more prog i hope, but make it heavy as fuck.
Keep the 7-strings on the go and mybe have a few Dropped tuned songs.
it would be pure mad if they used that "A G C F A D" Kinda tuning aswell on a few tracks

QUOTE(We Are The Decieved @ May 4 2007, 07:03 PM) and even then the band didnt really want to be called metalcore, think i heard matt say "Metalcore? Fuck Metal Core", triviums next album will fucking rock , do they have any plns as of yet, or are they just going to see if anything happens while touring?

I don't think the band themselves have said that have they?
I know it was on the Metalhammer mag cover but I'd almost be willing to put money on that being something the magazine has concocted.

QUOTE(Creeping Dan @ May 5 2007, 04:17 PM) I myself do not like Korn, but i have nothing wrong with Trivium goin on tour with em, that doesnt bother me the slightest, i just think its cool that they are touring. And why is their music "watered down"? And yeh great albums make bands famous, butif you tour with big bands (lame or not) people are gonna hear the band and maybe buy their albums (like The Crusade which is awsome). Now for those reasons i see no point why they shouldn't go on tour with Korn.
And the girly lyrics part, since when is "skull fuck" girly?
I didn't mean trivium's music was wattered down and girly. I mean that is an easy way of gaining popularity, along with going on these types of tours. Another way of gaining popularity would be to create the best metal album released in the last 10 years with aggressive, yet clean vocals just as they laid down on The Crusade. However, the complexity was not there (Not counting the crusade-instrumental, and Entance) throughout this album. I think The Crusade owns, minus Ignition and This World, and it is their best album to date, However, I don't think that is the best they have to offer.
My point was that a band such as trivium can go 2 routs to gain popularity. They can make wattered down songs, girly lyrics, and go on lame tours. This will inevitably give trivium a carrier they can be proud of. Eventually this route will earn them a ton of radio play and get them on posters on young teenager's walls all across the world. Hell, it will probably make them all rich. However, if they truly want to be metal legends they need to do so through THEIR MUSIC, not their image. If they make records which are worthy of being compared to Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, and whatever other legendary metal band you'd like to add, everything else will follow.

QUOTE(metal7690 @ Dec 11 2006, 02:56 AM) I'm definitley a fan of the progressive metal thing becuse I think trivium could pull it off. I mean...the songs on The Crusade had so much damn potential...but each one was so short that none of it was realized. I mean, ignition could've been epic....just like becoming the dragon...especially becoming the dragon..instead of that stupid "dream theatre" riff it goes into for about two minutes. Personally, I think Trivium are trying to write majority friendly songs, and not focusing on what they really want and have the potential to write. And as far as Ascendancy and ETI goes...I think they blow The Crusade out of the water...they are so much more emotional and mean so much more. That is what music should be...the songs should have passion. I mean on Ascendacny after two screams you could feel Matt's pain and anguish and it really meant something to you, where as on the crusade it's like the songs are meaningless to me and lack any emotion at all. The solos on ETI and Ascend. were much more original and creative and emotional as well.
As for what the next album should sound like I think a perfect example is the second half of Departure...extremely heavy thrash riffs with singing and MAtt's signature screaming mixed half and half. It's perfect for the new Trivium sound. So basically, I'd like to see Trivium write more original, epic, progressive, emotional songs. To me, they did show signs of life with Broken One and Vengeance, but those are about the only positives of this new sound so far.

Mate u r a fucking genius!! u made the most sense out of everybody on this forum! if matts's signature scream was mixed half and half in a few of there songs there new album, they could (and should) b beta off!
Sure ascendancy and Ember were better albums compared to the Crusade, i do believe that whateva way trivium decide to head for there next album, it should b there own decision what they do!
just like there idols (metallica) who changed over time maybe trivium may 2!
lets just hope that Trivium can pull off 14 albums (15 soon) like metallica did!
METAL 4 LIFE!!!!! TRIVIUM, METALLICA, PANTERA, LAMB OF GOD! WE NEED SUM GOOD AUSSIE 1'S!!!!!
although every1 out there should chek out PARKWAY DRIVE, BERZERKER and I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN. GR8 AUSSIE BANDS!!!!

I want them to reach world wide success through outstanding music. Not through wattered down songs, weak tours, and girly lyrics. They can open for Iron Maiden, Slayer, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Metallica, Linkin Park, Korn, JZ, Eminem, Kenny G, and perform on American Idol to ensure that they "play in front of every type of croud," but it won't make the music any better or worse. In my opinion (which I admit is easy to say because this band is not how I make my living) Trivium should consintrate on creating awesome metal music to create more success. It is outstanding albums that create legendary bands, not touring with a bunch of lame asses.

the tour will not influence their music. at all. it's about reaching new fans that might've never had a chance to find out about them. they have played in front of about every kind of metal crowd they could from beginning to now, if you keep doing the same tours, you'll never gain anything. if you don't gain anything, there is no way to keep putting on great shows. that's pretty much it. even if you don't like who they are going on tour with, support the idea that they want to last a long time for their fans, and many fans to come.

Seriously what does the tour have to do with their music. And how could a tour influence their music. Plus they are doing this tour to play for new fans. I don't see whats wrong with it.
