I think to save on the threads being made about vocals (asking about screaming techniques etc) and to ask a few questions. I ve made this thread!
For one, I would like vocal tone, range and power explained to me. Would just like to be clear on what they are. Glenn should know...

Is it possible to improve the tone of my singing voice?

*Stickied*
yeah i'm actually training my voice to be a better screamer as well as a singer, i'm going for the Anselmo clean vocals, but i'm just beginning, and it's hard singing in a house full of kids.

anyone got any tips?

Thanks for stickying this!
Clean vocals tips? Take deep breathes when practising doing long notes.
Screaming, remember the sound is from the guts, hence the term "gutteral" screaming. Same does apply to high pitched screams, the best way I find is yes u gotta feel at the back of your throat but emphasise on the throat doing the work.
Growling, similar techniques but obviously an important point is dont continue if you feel pain! Stop and carry on later, try a different technique. The you get is important but so is not fucking your throat up!

For clean singing I'll give a small little over view.
vocal tone, range and power explained to me
Tone: This is the characteristic of someones singing. Someone can be an extremely good skilled singer but sound like complete shit because there tone is not appealing. There's no way you can alter your tone, it's kind of a trait about who you are.
Range: This is basically how low and how high the singer can sing. Some singers have almost no range but still sound amazing (Frank Sinatra).
Changing your range is based on registers, you have 3. Chest/full voice, Head voice, and Falsetto. Most of the time you're singing in your chest voice, which is where you go the lowest. Then for higher stuff and softer stuff you move to your head voice. To do extremely high things you move to your falsetto register.
Some examples? Let's take Iron Maiden for example.
The song Blood Brothers, when Bruce starts singing for the first time in the song he's singing in his chest/full voice.
In the song The Trooper, he starts out the song in his head voice.
Now in the song Aces High during the end he goes "Acesssss HighhhHHHH" and right when he is singing the words "High" he switches to falsetto. To hit maximum range.
As for power. Power is very hard to explain but it;s basically a natural presence in someones singing. You can only hear it and try to distinct it your self. The most powerful metal vocalist is probably Ronnie James Dio. Just listen to the song "Shame On The Night" and you can hear the raw power in his voice.
Hope this has been informative.

some vocal tips
glenn is right about the head voice and chest voice....but ideally, u shouldnt use your chest voice tht often cecause tht is where the strain on your voice comes from
the way i train...you use the mask of the face to make the sound..the focus is what makes your voice loud not the power from your chest, thts the way ur gona fuck ur voice up, never force your voice for volume.
to get this focus u need to breathe into your diaphragm, which is basically how u breathe normally, just when ur told to breathe....u tend to breathe shallow into your chest, this isnt good so focusing on breathing naturally is the way to go xxxx

my favorite scream tone i can get out of myself is if like, you whisper... but then do it 1000x harder.
