allrighity, here's an update on my growls lately:
they've comed a long way, still I have some issues that require attention.
first off, when I do my high shrieks my throat dries up really quickly... If I performed live like this I think I would have to drink during the songs as well is there anything that I can do to help that? (other than drinking alot of water.) I've found my range now and I'm quite happy with it actually...
this is how they work at the moment!
growling
drop me a line about what you think, what I could do better etc.
help would be greatly apreaciated =)

They sound awesome to me dude, especially your high ones The water thing isn't a problem, you can just make sure you have some water there onstage with you Don't forget that to make high-pitched (and therefore high-frequency) sound, you have to force a lot of air through a small space in your vocal chords, which will naturally dry them up a lot. I'm sure it will become easier with practise

Become Phil Anselmo. Although that may result in rambling and chronic substance abuse.

QUOTE(Michael @ May 20 2006, 03:00 AM) I used to drink milk a lot because it made mucus so it didn't hurt as much, I hadn't realized how much it effects your volume, I had to push a lot harder to get the sound out.
I drink shitloads of water when I'm practicing. I go through around 6-8 usually
It's paying off though, I can scream through most songs, except for higher pitches, I get this sharp pain and it makes me cough sometimes.
Any help with that?
Hello
Nice thread btw!
But what I've heard/realized is that HOT drinks are the shit for growling and singing.
My english is not the best so cant explain it to good but, the warm drinks make's it easier to get your sound right and get a comferatable feeling in your throat. Cold drinks as you may know makes your throat cold and thats not a good thing becuse your throat gets stiff. I always drink coffe or tea before a gig, but well... Not all cold drinks are bad, you can drink coke but it make's you burp and that's not a good thing when your standing on a stage trying to scream.
So try drinking coffe or tea next time you practice and you will realize that its better!

I wouldn't drink coffee because a) it has caffeine and B) it'll dry out your throat

Warm milk and honey is good. Although I find the best warm up routine is 12 bottles of Carlsberg Export and pent up aggression.
