A lot of them have a lot of mythological influence I know, but I am not entirely sure on all the song meanings. I could ask Matt if he'd write up little song summaries like he did back in the day for Ascendancy.

^^Like Dorsteinn said check out roman mythology for songs like callisto to a star in heaven,of prometheus and the crucifix and he who spawned the furies.
Personally I feel alot of the songs are about dealing with life and that its a battle that you gotta keep on fighting no matter what it throws and you and keep strong.

Scylla and cahrybdis is a story from the oddysey about a man named Odysseus leading his me past Scylla and Charybdis a six headed monster and a whirlpool
Callisto(shortened obviously) is about how Zeus raped io and she was turned into a Cow thus ruining her life
Crucifix Is about Zeus's punishment of Prometheus because he knew which of his sons would come to over throw him but he would not tell him so he was chained to a rock and a crow ate out his liver each day and it grew back over night then it happened again etc etc
Down from the sky is your political garbage etc etc
Mouth of hell/throes is about the every day hell of life and pushing through
Kirisute gomen is a Japanese saying which means "pardon while I cut your head off"(I think) and it's a story explaining it because if you made a samaruai mad they would cut your head off
Insurrection is something to do with religion
Shogun is all over the map so I'm not sure
He who spawned the furies deals with the Titan ruler Cronus who ate his children to ensure that the son who was to throw him over couldn't ( who turned out to be Zeus)
The calamity which means the tragedy is self explanitory really

I'm 90% on those and 100% on the mythology ones you can ask matt , I'm sure he'll run by this, or one of you can but that should satisfy some
And I typed this all on my iPod so the hell with the rest of you!
Hope this helps.

Umm... the song is about Callisto, not Io. Hence the name. Can't remember the exact story, but Zeus raped Callisto, turned her into a bear for some reason. Callisto's son was out hunting, when he came across his mother (in bear form) and was about to kill her when Zeus put them both in the sky as stars (ie. Ursa Major and Ursa Minor).

i posted this on another topic but i think it applies to this one.
id have to say of prometheus and the crucifix. i love the concept of using the story of prometheus as a metaphor for doing sumthing that in your heart u felt was right but having sum consequences that u will have to deal with. and sumtimes we all get put in that postion. awsum!! and the music just totally drives the depiction. if u know the story ud appreciate the song more with this in mind. ands its just so awsum how they ended it just as it began. just like prometheus' sufferring
and most of the songs are mtyhilogical but when broken down have their own metaphor to which anyone can relate to. the lyrics dont have to be literal. and its just so awsum how they do this with every song. matt is the best writer i have ever heard because of his ability to do all this along with his bandmates.
he said in the vocal technique interview he writes the music first and the comes up with lyrics and vocals. which is awsum bcuz the music is what drives the song. that itslef opens up the song to intrepitaiton.
for example, it allowed me to think about the idea of maybe satan commanding sumone to kill theyre children. if you believe in heaven and hell or not how can u not think about that when u listern to entrance.. im not justifying anything im just saying theres alot of crazy shit that happens in this world we cant explain so why cant that be one. but the music is what allowed me to listen to the song like that. you go form the dark heavy mood to the faster shit. even the hauting aahhhsss kinda sounding like her pain. guys even the solos kind of sound like they keep rising and trying to break away but the song comes back to her being convinced to do it.
and they do this with most of their songs. i can talk about that forver but ill shut up. i just think fellow triivum fans would rnjoy sumthing like this

I think The Calamity, with all the various references to Mother, is about Final Fantasy VII, but I'm not certain.
