I play everything from standard E, Dropped D, the Opeth tuning (DADFAD), my Jackson is in Drop C at the moment, and my 7 string is in B. I'm thinking about moving it down half a step, but I'm not sure.

after all my experiences, i stick to standard tuning and drop D. whats the point of dropping everything a whole step or something? its true some things just dont sound the same... u can make something sound just as heavy in dropD than in dropC.

Sometimes the lower tuning gives you a ballsier approach to the music.
Also, the heavier gauge strings have a much warmer tone normally, but playing on .12s in E standard would absolutely kill your hands and most likely not be very good for your guitar as far as tension goes. Imagine doing a two-step bend on .12s while in standard. It would be absolutely painful and most likely wouldn't be achievable unless you've got robot fingers. So by downtuning your guitar, you get a meatier sound along with warmer tone, and the guitar is very playable, too.

I like lower tunings like C , Drop, C, B, And Drop B And Drop A because you have a whole other world of tone varietys, think about this, the only way Nile can get there tone is by playing Drop A , Sure it seems really extreme, but when you play Drop A For while (and like the post above me stated on .12s) the tone ss much "Meatier" and Warmer, its more of a kick to the balls if oyu know what i mean, And when it comes to soloing, Arpeggios sound alot better in lower tunings, atleast to me it does.

exactly. And there's a reason guitarists play their rhythm stuff on the lower strings. Imagine having your riffing all done on the 15th fret area of the high E string. Wow, that would sound really bad. However, drop that same bit down to the low E string and play it exactly the same, and now it's got some balls to it. Playing higher notes doesn't have as much crunch as the lower notes. People can say you get the same effect from a Dropped D and a Dropped C, but in reality, the dropped C is a heavier tuning. I'm not a big fan of superly detuned guitars, but they have their place. For example, take At The Gates. They play in standard B. Damn. Okay, so they have demos of them playing in standard E, which sound nowhere near as heavy or in your face as the B.
Just my two cents.
And arpeggios, Iduno. You could always just move the shape down a couple frets and it'd have the same effect haha.

Well try this, play this arepggio:

|--------7-12-7----------
|------1---------1-------
|---3--------------3-----
|-5-------------------5--
|-------------------------
|-------------------------
in e standard it would be a bitch cause yuou have to play on those frets, but if you play say, b standard. you can play that same shape where the frets are closer and easier to manage. although if you wanna stay in e standard, i guess you could tap the 12th note

I hope to dear God that nobody would ever want to play that arpeggio. I just pulled out my guitar to see what it sounded like. Ew. lol
