i say a little bit of both.

i was surfing the web. randomly found the site. listened to 'like light to the flies' and instantly fell in love. ended up lovin' all the other songs.

Was looking at the RR roaster and Trivium caught my eye pretty quickly, clicked the profile, listened to Like Light and the rest is history

I first heard about Trivium when they toured with Iced Earth. I didn't get to see that tour, but the general opinion i got from other who went was "Damn, that Trivium band really sucked. Their singer is just a third rate Hetfield impersonator, couldn't stand em!" etc. etc. So I didn't bother researching them any further. I actually went to get food while they were playing at Ozzfest last year, because I'd heard they weren't worth listening to. I heard little bits and pieces while I was eating, and it didn't sound that bad, then somebody (couldn't tell you who, I forget) gave me a burned copy of Ascendancy and I gave it a couple spins, and I got hooked.

Well, I knew about Trivium for a while, but I never listened to them. I kept hearing stuff about how they are the leading metal band in the world right now.
So in September 2005 I picked up Revolver and it had an article about Trivium, so I went ahead and downloaded a song and I thought it was alright. So I bought the album and now I am a fan.

I hadn't heard of them until Ascendancy. Got a cd with a Metal Hammer issue with Pull Harder.

Saw them on Yahoo-Musik for the first time with Pull harder ...
