why do alot of bands get lighter with age (not all)

People need to remember that bands still always play the older stuff live, so you're not missing out if they decide to do different stuff for later albums. And the old albums will always be there for you...
And yeah I don't know what to think about IF (As in if they sold out or not). They still play heavy music but they just took a different direction with it. Could even say they went a more american sounding direction (Which I don't like as much as the old stuff but I think Come Clarity is still the best album out of the 3 latest albums). And they have done like 1 ballad in their career, I ain't gonna call them sell outs for that.

Well, thats a stupid thing to say, nothing in the world is guaranteed, but its a fact that these bands only got famous after they started making softer albums.

I still don't quite understand what you're trying to say

Basically, he is saying "they sold out"
They compromised their original sound and roots in order to gain a larger fan base and hit the mainstream and make money.
Are you following now?
In Flames song "Come Clarity" is great, but it's weird. Im used to In Flames songs having screaming

I see . . .
So if bands change the music they play they sell out?
Would that mean if I played some weird progressive metal that no one could listen to and got bored of it so went back to a conventional sound I too would be selling out?

Not necessarily, no.

September 12, 2007 11:51:41 AM UTC Post #17

As Podgie said, not necessarily.
But for the most part.....

I agree with Gus.

Oh yeah, i agree with the majority of what Gus said too.

Look at Cradle of Excrement for example.
They actually did start out making some fairly decent black metal originally. But as their fame and money started skyrocketting, the quality of their music followed an inverse trend.

Exactly - for example look at Megadeth and Metallica in the mid 90's. They went "softer" and their album sales decreased rapidly.
