Buying an amplifier - tips please
Need a new guitar
That's right brothers and sisters of Trivium w3rd, I need a guitarrrr! Will be buying it August/September methinks.
I want it to play well, feel well, and not be of shitty quality. Neck construction can be anything but bolt-on. 6 or 7 string, doesn't matter. Preferably a normal bridge. The pick-ups shuold also preferably be Seymour Duncans or normal PAF's or something. In other words, passive pick-ups. It should be able to cover anything from rock to old school thrash and then some. Clarity is important. Unfortunately most guitars I've been eyeing have floating bridges :/
Right, gimme suggestions here! Try to motivate, too ^^
A preview of what Matt's getting... let's talk food!
Matt's selling his gear, and I wanted in! So, I made a bid on one of his DSL 100's. In addition to X amount of USD, I also offered him bits of the type of food we eat at home (which is food you don't find normally in Sweden).
To the far left: chicken stew sorta thing with, well, nice tender chicken (mostly breast and legs) with some veggies in it, goes well with what you have to the top right - rice. No, not that stone-hard kind of rice. Properly cooked rice. And to the immediate right of the chicken stew you have some sort of pizza salad which isn't particularly arabic but it works.
Right below the rice you have onions and stuff we call "torshi" which is basically cucumber and other veggies that have been conserved in some way in jars filled with vinegar. Under the onion/torshi you have
To the left: shishkebab. The real deal. Nuff said.
To the right: ...can't write it down hear but it translate roughly to "meat with dough". Kind of like pizza. But besides the dough it's just that meat you see with some spices and strong sauce you mix in with the minced meat, and jalapeños, onion and mushrooms (agaricus). To the very top you have a special drink that consists of filmjölk/yoghurt, water and salt which you stir until you can drink it. I love itttt. Also, bread goes with the shishkebab of course, together with the onions, torshi, and definitely tomatoes, normal cucumber and possibly some sauce (not needed with this IMO).
Note that everything here (and everything Matt's getting) will be home-made by me and my mom. Mostly my mom but I'll help along. Not to sound like a work dodger but her cooking skills are just way above me. I'm pretty sure this isn't 100% what he'll be getting because some of this is kind of commonplace in some parts (like the pizza salad). We'll see what I can come up with, I have till March or something.
Oh, he'll be getting recipes and instructions on how to make the stuff as well.
And this thread is for food, 'cause I love food even though you can't tell by looking at me. I thought this picture might stir your dormant stomachs and turn them into hungry beasts!
I just ate a "meat with dough". I should've put some yoghurt on it, would've been yummier. That kebab's going in my belly in 3-4 hours, and after that, the chicken stew (if mom decides we all should eat it since there's so little rice left).
Has anyone tried shishkebab? What about biryani? What about SUSHI? I love sushi, but it takes plenty of pieces (30+) before I get full. Which makes it very expensive when compared to... say... falafel. XD
I am the victim of fraud
I was checking my bank account through the internet today because I was gonna see how much I needed to borrow from my friend due to an amp I'm buying tomorrow. I discover that I have a saldo of 2,800 SEK but only have 2,500 SEK available. What's going on?
I check my transactions this last month. I see two transactions of 39,97 USD each spanning a month between, and somewhere inbetween there, I find another charge for about 25 USD. What's going on? I ask myself. I do some 10-minute detective work (which is essentially copy & paste and google), and discover that I have something in common with the teenage dude in USA, the worker in the UK, a chick in Australia and the mother of five kids.
We've all been exposed to fraud.
We've not purchased a FUCK from any of the listed company which some have worked out is essentially just one company that one girl/woman discovered was some sort of company that dealt with Adult Site Listings or whatever. Dunno how them shitheads got my card number, but now they have it. So, going down to my bank tomorrow, see what I can work out. If it's going to end up in some long-ass investgation I'll probably just block my card or something and fix new stuff. Which, unfortunately, could mean that I may not be able to buy the amp + cab tomorrow.
Alright, discuss.
PS: No, I haven't paid for any adult website, wisecracks, porn is useless to me. PM me if you so desperately want to know why, it's too personal to share with this world here.
My "band" has some big issues
First of all we're still not a band, it's basically James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich except it's taking place nearly 30 years later and the drummer is actually awesome.
Anyway, we don't have any place to rehearse. I'm going to buy a big amp so we can practice at the drummer's dad's garage-thing. It's not a garage, it's more like a spacey toolshed/carpenter's workshop thngy, dunno the English word. Anyway, the problem there is that people would be hesistant to bring their equipment there and start jamming with us and shit because Swedes are shitty like that. Plus we're not sure there's enough room to fit not only my amp and his drum kit, but another two amps (2nd guitarist, bassist) and PA-system.
Ehh yeah, we're serious about the music and shit but it's fucking impossible for us to move forward because there are NO places to rehearse whatsoever, and lack of rehearse place makes it hard to complete the band.
So, people, PLEASE, share any helpful tips and info you can, because we've been standing still for far too long!
Buying an amplifier - tips please
Looking to buy an amp, so just go ahead and suggest
Here is some info about what music I play, and what gear I'm using:
I play metal of most kinds but also clean stuff.
I use a Jackson RR3 Rhoads. 010-052 strings. Stock Seymour Duncan pick-ups.
I'm considering getting a wah-pedal. I'm willing to buy an Overdrive pedal if necessary.
Here is some facts about credentials for the amp I'm looking for:
* Decent cleans. I don't want it to break up even when I'm playing full chords or what not.
* Tube amp. Nothing else. Just tubes.
* The sound I'm looking for is something like early 80's Metallica/Megadeth, Iron Maiden, late Trivium.
* A warm, rich tone is nice. I don't like tons of gain, muddiness, thin, harsh and cold highs and mid scoops.
I'm not good with threads like these. What I do want is that you motivate and explain your suggestions. Like, how you achieve the good tunes.
