  What can I say about this band....I keep hearing how great this band is, yet after wasting my hard earned cash on the new cd, I gotta say only more disappointment from what seems to be a talented band. Matt Heafy cant seem to make up his mind whether he wants to be James Hetfield or Chris Barnes. I mean they start life as just another metalcore band that basically sounded like Unearth and every other band of that ilk. Then, a couple of releases down the line, Heafy decides hes the new Hetfield and even pronounces his words like Het ( Fiyaaaa) Now, on this new CD, he seems to be at times channeling his inner Howard Jones ( Killswitch Engage ) on some tracks, then he uses the cookie monster growl on other tracks, then he reverts back to his obvious love of Metallica on others. I have no problem with a band being diverse and trying some different things BUT try different things within the niche you carve out for YOURSELF. The best metal bands of the last decade are the ones who are INSTANTLY recognizable, and the best of the best have grown and changed, but the changes made arent so scizophrenic. In my opinion, Lamb of God are the best metal band that has surfaced in the last decade, and while they have changed and tried new things, when you hear them, you KNOW its them. Shadows Fall the same way. While all of these bands influences are pretty obvious, they never have blatantly copied their influences the way Trivium routinely does. I know all of this comes off like im just a total hater, but that wouldnt be true. I pray that when I see talented musicians like Trivium, that they will find their own unique voice and capitalize on that talent. But with this band, it seems they are to busy chasing every trend in the metal world instead of figuring out what they are best at, then expanding from that base. I keep hoping this band will do something totally unique, but again I listen to the latest CD and am disappointed yet again. I wont be shelling out money on anything else they release until they find an identity.
