Hello, I'm sort of new to this forum and before I begin my first post I'd like to say a few words about me. I'm a 16 year old teen from Medford Oregon and I like all forms of rock. That being said I'd like to continue with the topic.
When you think of your standard metal band the first thing that comes to mind isn't their thoughtful lyrics, of course not. It's the insane guitar, the bad ass drummer, or the crazy ass vocals. But when it comes to trivium things are different, in addition to your typical band layout (great drummer, guitarist, etc) you have another level. Lyrics.
Now I may be reading to much into the lyrics of some of the songs, seeing as none of my friends agree with me when I say that Trivium's lyrics wern't meant to be taken at face value, but am I really?
Lets take a simple song that seems to be pretty straight forward: "The World Can't Tear Us Apart", and try to think about it differently that you did originally.
I was so empty
Self loathing
Before you awoke me
Lived in transgression
Feasted sin
Destroying all I stood for
* This first verse could mean a meraid of things; What was it that woke him up from his apathy? God? A person? A girl? Or does it not matter? do we really need to know who/what this person is to understand the song?
A world with spreading disease
Legs up for infidelity
They force feed of their stiffened sickness
They promised hiding their rings
To suck down some of the things
That cheat this world into lovelessness
* verse two. In this verse things are on a broader scale "a WORLD of spreading disease" Is he referring to a personal world? Or the world as a whole?
All the pain in this world won't stop us now
For we have each other
All the hate in this world can't tear us apart
This love is forever
* Who is "us"? Two lovers? a group of people? maybe the worlds love?
In arms we'll turn away
From their ways
We'll live like no other
Together we're hope
Absolute
The only thing that matters
* Leaving the norm to peruse what they perceive as "the rightus path".
General song notes:
1. In the song it is never stated that the song is referring to two people.
2. Love doesn't need to be between TWO people.
3. The second line in the song almost seems out of place, not referring to any ONE person inparticular.
So anyway thats it. I've really do like to look into song lyrics in different ways, and try to dicier what it could mean. I just thought I'd share my thoughts with all of you people as well.
Anyway Thanks for reading and I will be looking forward to replies!
P.S. please excuse the spelling.
