I made a thread in the Shogun forum about my first thoughts with this album, and i wasnt impressed really at first.
but i didnt listen to it 100% through, and im not easy on this band, i consider them posers for the most part.
However, i think they made a decent album here. Its not so gay and emo. they still carry on with some of the metalcore trademarks, but its not horriable.
Im most impressed with the creative guitar work going on. And i keep hearing they play well live. So this is a huge plus for the band.
Call them posers, faggots, wannabes......and maybe they are all of those things......but you cant talk much shit about their talent at playing the instruments. and thats a strong element to have mastered. so thats definatly a big plus for this band.
I personally play guitar and am forming a band, and where i am superior to this band in melody, they kick my ass in utter technique, i cant play guitar that well...yet lol. So i cant talk when it comes to that. so i give them credit for knowing how to play real good.
But great guitar playing doesnt mean its a great album.
I think its a 4 star metalcore album. They got more mature. All the crying this band did in their dressing rooms and on the tour buses to cope with the MASSIVE disrespect from the metal community, they finally learned to suck it up and ignore it, and channel that EMO-tion and made a decent album.
I wont lie to you. Its a likable album. You just have to listen through it, and you'll here some first hints of creativity from this band.
And witness such a thing...the whole idea of TRIVIUM in the same sentence with CREATIVE is enough reason itself to check out this album if you despised this bands prior "work"
Some of the people out there hate everything associated with the scene kid trends , from emo to metalcore, to screamo to whatever the hell it is. And when they heard Trivium make remarks about wanting to be bigger than metallica and then try to do a little pose as if they were the band, that really made the metal communities "blood boil" . Seeing all trivium listeners as basically a bunch of punk bitch emo kids that try hard to go out and buy the heaviest evilest cds out there so they can associate real metal with their little Trendium band. Whether its buying a shirt of a band youre honestly CLUELESS about, or uploading an image of some obscure underground death/black metal band as an avatar to come across as "metal" and to seem like you have credibility.....the metal community smells a dirty faggot rat when it smells one....or hears one.
    Such politics....are so....well....kinda stupid i guess.
But thats how it is. This is probubly the most honest review this thread will ever get in its entire lifespan, so enjoy.
Not that others are lieing....i mean...the most brutally honest of the bunch.
Sure, Trivium had and has a bad rep, sure they arent exactly the most innovative or credible guys out there.
They might be rich emo faggots whose parents spoon fed them and bought ALL their gear ,amps, guitars ....
...but these guys can play the music they have on their cd. They made an actually inspired album. It shows creativity.
It has a more mature , more genuine feel to it. And its shows theyve grown up. This is the album they should of debuted with.
Then the name Trivium probubly wouldnt be synonymous with POSER.
And whether thats fair or not.... i think if trivium keeps ignoring the bullies hurling the endless urine filled waterballoons...and use the hate as fuel for fire to make better music, then i think they will gain some respect. finally.
    Shogun
    (final score)
    B+
    good effort by Trivium
probubly the best metalcore album out there.
