Dear Trivium
So, I got into your band in 2005, I was blown away by you guys at the Download Festival, and once again on your tour later in the year. The next year, I went to see you guys twice, and you were fabulous, on both nights. Didn't hear much from you guys for a while, then you brought out the Crusade, I gave it a chance, but I couldn't get into it, I saw you guys support Maiden, was disappointed, how it wasn't as good as you were the last time I had seen you. I didn't bother going to see you in 2007, instead, chose to spend much time with my girlfriend.
So 2 years on, you guys are making a new album. I hear the first song on it, I am blown away, I find Matt's vocals have improved drastically, and I can't wait for the new album. I buy Shogun when it comes out, I am unsure about what I think. One of the bands I like, Slayer, are touring with you guys, I got my tickets for this. 6 days before the gig, my girlfriend of 2.5 years breaks up with me, for reasons I am still unsure of. I go see you guys with a bunch of people who don't think you'll be any good. I am unsure on what to think, having been disappointed the last time. The Trivium logo appears, greeted by many screams, and also, many Slayer chants. I have doubts how this is going to go down. Your intro tape comes on, following by Kirisute Gomen.. I was fucking blown away just watching you guys run out on stage. So much energy and passion in it. I can't even describe how good I felt when you guys had come on. I had pretty much been off you for 18 months, yet when you guys came on stage and started playing, oh man, I fell in love with your music again. The effort and energy you guys put into that show is indescribable. For the first time in days, I actually forgot about my ex, and started to have the time of my life, and my mates said I was even smiling! I am still in awe at how good you guys were. Fuck all the Slayer fans, chanting 'SLAYER' all the way through like its the only word they can say. You guys were amazing.. Oh and just to add, you were better than Slayer. You probably wouldn't admit it, but you were. You have more energy and passion in what you do. Even the guys who I was with, who thought you wouldn't be any good, now love you guys and thought you were better than Slayer.
Thank you very much for cheering me up and making it probably the best gig I've been to, out of about 130. I can't wait to see you guys tour again. I'll go to as many dates as I can. I am listening to Shogun, I've had it on repeat for quite a while now, my conclusion is that this album fucking rocks, well done on that too.
Much love,
Mike
