Definately get a digital SLR. It'll be well worth you're money. If you only have $1000, I'd get a Nikon D70. It's a great starter camera. I think those are only like $900 with a kit lens...granted that lens is basically garbage for concert photography because the aperture sucks. Use your left over funds to buy a 50mm f1.8 lens. It'll be the best $70 you can ever spend on photography, especially for shooting concerts.
